Le Petit Écolier is hiring part-time French teachers for the 2026–2027 school year at our Oakville centre.
We are looking for reliable, engaging and professional French-speaking educators who enjoy teaching French to learners of different ages and levels and can commit consistently to their assigned weekly classes.
Our school-year programs serve children, youth and adults at different stages of French learning, including students learning French as an additional language, students enrolled in French Immersion programs and learners seeking private or small-group instruction.
Classes begin the week of September 14, 2026.
Location
Oakville, Ontario
This is an in-person position.
Applicants must be able to reliably commute to Oakville for all assigned classes.
Please apply only if regular travel to Oakville is realistic for you throughout the school year.
Compensation
$25.00 per hour
This is a part-time teaching position. Weekly hours will depend on teacher availability, program enrolment and class assignments.
Schedule
Most school-year teaching opportunities take place:
- Weekday afternoons and evenings
- Saturdays
- Occasionally during PD Days, school breaks or other LPE educational programs
We are particularly interested in teachers who have availability during the after-school period on weekdays and/or on Saturdays.
Teachers do not need to be available every day. However, once a recurring class is assigned and accepted, we require consistent weekly availability and attendance.
Continuity is important for our students and families.
Programs
Depending on experience, qualifications and availability, teachers may be assigned to programs including:
Early French Learners
Approximately ages 4–5.
Classes focus on developing comfort and confidence with French through oral communication, vocabulary, songs, stories, games, movement and age-appropriate learning activities.
Elementary French Programs
Approximately ages 6–11.
Classes develop:
- Oral communication
- Listening comprehension
- Vocabulary
- Reading
- Writing
- Grammar
- Pronunciation
- Confidence communicating in French
French Immersion Support
Programs designed for students attending French Immersion schools who require additional support or enrichment in areas such as:
- Oral French
- Reading comprehension
- Writing
- Vocabulary
- Grammar
- Classroom language
- Academic confidence
Youth and Teen French Programs
Programs for older students who are developing, maintaining or strengthening their French-language skills.
Lessons may focus on:
- Conversation
- Reading and writing
- Grammar
- Pronunciation
- Academic French
- French Immersion support
- Preparation for school assessments or other learning goals
Adult French Programs
Programs for adult learners at beginner, intermediate or advanced levels.
Lessons may focus on:
- Everyday communication
- Conversation
- Listening comprehension
- Reading and writing
- Grammar
- Pronunciation
- Workplace or professional French
- Travel French
- Preparation for personal, academic or professional goals
Private and Semi-Private Lessons
Additional teaching opportunities may be available for teachers interested in private or small-group instruction for children, youth or adults.
Who We Are Looking For
Applicants should have strong spoken and written French and be comfortable teaching primarily in French.
You should also be comfortable adapting your teaching to different ages, learning goals and levels of French proficiency.
Experience working with children is valuable, but applicants with experience teaching youth or adults are also encouraged to apply.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Be fluent or highly proficient in French
- Have strong French pronunciation and oral communication skills
- Be comfortable teaching primarily in French
- Have experience teaching, tutoring, coaching, mentoring or facilitating learning
- Be able to adapt instruction for different ages and levels
- Be able to manage a small group of learners independently
- Be reliable and punctual
- Be able to commit consistently to assigned weekly classes
- Be organized and prepared for lessons
- Be able to follow LPE curriculum, lesson objectives and teaching guidelines
- Communicate professionally with LPE administration
- Be comfortable receiving feedback and participating in training when required
- Be able to reliably commute to Oakville
- Be legally eligible to work in Canada
Preferred Background
We welcome applicants with experience or education in areas such as:
- French as a Second Language
- French Immersion
- Elementary, secondary or adult education
- French-language education
- Teaching French to children, youth or adults
- Tutoring
- Linguistics
- Education
- Workplace or professional language training
- Community education
- Educational camps or enrichment programs
Ontario College of Teachers certification is an asset but is not required.
University students or graduates in education, French studies, linguistics or related fields may also be considered if they have strong French-language skills and relevant teaching or facilitation experience.
Teaching Responsibilities
Teachers are responsible for delivering engaging, structured and appropriate French lessons based on the age, level and goals of each group.
Responsibilities may include:
- Reviewing assigned curriculum and lesson objectives before class
- Preparing required teaching materials and activities
- Delivering lessons primarily in French
- Encouraging learners to speak and interact in French
- Teaching vocabulary, oral communication, reading, writing and grammar as appropriate for the group
- Using conversation, games, projects, role-play and other interactive teaching methods
- Adjusting instruction to accommodate different learning levels and goals
- Maintaining a positive, respectful and well-managed learning environment
- Monitoring learner participation and progress
- Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries with students and learners
- Communicating concerns regarding attendance, behaviour or learning needs to LPE administration
- Keeping teaching areas and materials organized
- Following LPE policies and procedures
- Participating in required orientation, training or curriculum meetings when scheduled
Teachers are expected to come to class prepared to teach, rather than relying entirely on worksheets or unstructured activities.
Reliability and Commitment
Because many of our learners attend recurring weekly programs, reliability is especially important.
Teachers accepting a class should be able to maintain that teaching commitment consistently throughout the applicable session or school year.
This position is best suited to someone whose availability is relatively stable and who is looking for an ongoing part-time teaching opportunity.
Safety and Onboarding Requirements
Successful candidates working directly with children or youth will be required to meet LPE's child-safety and onboarding requirements.
This may include providing a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check and completing required policies or documentation before beginning work with students.
Additional onboarding requirements may apply depending on the program and learner age group.
