Avent Charter is a premier charter bus transportation company operating commercial passenger buses and vehicles across Western Canada. We are seeking both an experienced, hands-on, and highly organized Red Seal Heavy Duty Bus Mechanic and Service Manager to lead our heavy-duty commercial bus maintenance division.
This leadership role is responsible for overseeing all daily operations of a busy fleet maintenance and repair facility with a team of 10+ mechanics and technicians. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a proactive approach to fleet reliability, compliance, and shop operations.
Position Summary
The Red Seal Heavy Duty Commercial Bus Mechanic and Service Manager will oversee all maintenance operations for our commercial bus fleet, ensuring vehicles are maintained to the highest safety, reliability, and regulatory standards. This role requires a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic with valid CVIP inspection certification and extensive experience managing heavy-duty fleet maintenance teams.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader who can balance shop productivity, preventative maintenance scheduling, compliance requirements, staffing, inventory control, and operational efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of 10+ heavy-duty mechanics, apprentices, and support staff
- Oversee all daily shop operations, workflow scheduling, and repair prioritization
- Perform and supervise diagnostics, repairs, preventative maintenance, and fleet inspections
- Conduct and sign off on CVIP inspections
- Ensure fleet compliance with all provincial and federal transportation regulations
- Develop preventative maintenance programs to maximize fleet uptime and reliability
- Coordinate parts procurement, inventory management, and vendor relationships
- Monitor shop productivity, labour efficiency, and maintenance costs
- Maintain accurate service records, inspection documentation, and compliance reports
- Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate maintenance personnel
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture and clean shop environment
- Work closely with operations and dispatch teams to minimize vehicle downtime
- Respond to urgent breakdowns and operational issues when required
Qualifications
- Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification (Required)
- Valid CVIP Inspection Certification (Required)
- Minimum 7–10 years of heavy-duty commercial fleet maintenance experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of management or supervisory experience leading large mechanic teams
- Strong experience with commercial buses, coaches, diesel engines, air brake systems, and electrical diagnostics
- Strong understanding of preventative maintenance systems and fleet compliance
- Experience managing large fleet operations preferred
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Valid Class 1, 2, or 4 driver’s license considered an asset

Pay: $150,000.00-$200,000.00 per year
