The Family and Children's Services Branch within the Department of Health and Social Services promotes and develops the capacity of families and communities to care for and protect vulnerable children and youth, while supporting healthy child and family development to maximize the potential of every child in the Yukon.

The Branch is responsible for territory wide delivery of services and programs that support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth and their families.

We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, resourceful and results-oriented social worker for the role of Foster Care Social Worker. Reporting to the Supervisor, Foster Care and Placement Services, you will provide services under the Authority of the Child and Family Services Act. You will be managing a specialized caseload, conducting family assessments, providing counseling, developing foster care plans and delivering foster home program training.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor of Social Work
Considerable experience working with children and families in the area of child welfare and foster care services
Experience providing family assessments, counseling and crisis interventions, as well as providing support services to families and children
Experience working in a cross-cultural environment
Experience delivering training to adult learners would be an asset.

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Suitability

Candidates should have and may be assessed on:
Ability to conduct comprehensive family assessments
Ability to conduct quality of care reviews in foster homes
Strong conflict resolution skills and problem solving skills
Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
Effective oral and written communication skills

Additional Information:
Conditions of Employment

TB screening;
Vulnerable Sector Security Clearance;
Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent; and,
Verification of post-secondary degree(s).
Job Requirements

Occasional travel within and outside of the Yukon;
Willingness to work extended hours with limited notice including some weekend or evening work; and,
Exposure to potentially emotional and/or violent clients.
