$42.06 to $59.81 per hour ($76,549.20 to $108,854.20 per annum)

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Completed B.Sc. Science degree in a related area of study preferred.
- Engineering Technology Diploma from a recognized Community College or equivalent and eligibility for CTTAM certification required.
EXPERIENCE:
- 10 years of related experience in a research setting is required.
- Experience working with mechatronics and automation required.
- Experience working with power systems required.
- Experience working with aerospace systems preferred.
- Experience managing multiple projects effectively preferred.
- Extensive experience in maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing equipment required.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, WHIMIS and hazardous materials protocols and safe work procedures in a lab/shop setting preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to perform selection, operation and maintenance of specialized equipment that requires extensive theoretical and/or practical knowledge and troubleshooting skills in the area of mechatronics and automation is required.
- Ability to design and fabricate apparatus using basic and specialized tools is required.
- Ability to prepare specifications, drawings, instructions and procedures is required.
- Ability to plan, organize and administer an entire project is required.
- Proficiency in safe use of tools and equipment including maintenance and calibration is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to work with students and staff are required.
- Ability to oversee inventory control and ensure accurate stock management is required.
- Ability to coordinate multiple responsibilities while effectively prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines is required.
- Must be capable of working effectively both independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and guide others is required.
- Ability to manage and work within a budget is required.
- Familiarity with computing equipment related to data acquisition is an asset.
- Satisfactory work record, including reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance required.

Research Project Support
- Coordinate and administer research activities related to aerospace and space engineering including drone and satellite systems, collaborating with faculty, staff, students, post-doctoral fellows, research associates, and external stakeholders by:
- Organizing schedules
- Facilitating technical support
- And supporting the successful delivery of research programs.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and administer multiple concurrent research projects, ensuring timelines, quality, and deliverables are met is required.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks or inefficiencies, and implement solutions to support continuous improvement is required.
- Lead and organize meetings with research assistants, researchers, and advisory groups, including agenda development, scheduling, materials preparation, and follow-up as required.
- Act as liaison between the university and other organizations to collaborate with external companies and appropriately design and implement research activities.
- Support stakeholder communication and technical reporting to maintain alignment across project partners and teams.
- Work across multiple spacecraft subsystems, including Power, AODCS, Software/CDH, Structures, Thermal, and Propulsion/Thruster systems, supporting system-level design, interface definition, requirements development, subsystem integration, technical trade studies, and verification activities to ensure compatibility across the spacecraft architecture.
- Meet with academic staff and graduate students for frequent consultation regarding practical aspects of their research.
- Design, modify, and build graduate lab modules and research apparatus.
- Use Engineering principles to evaluate technical problems, conceptualize, and design solutions, use multi-discipline fabrication techniques to create or modify equipment to achieve specific objectives.
- Advise on the availability of equipment, materials application and new developments in instrumentation, provide evidence of suitability and recommend how to acquire these technologies cost-effectively.
- Supervise and mentor staff and students by assigning tasks, providing training, and supporting high-quality research and administrative work as required.
- Initiate development, refinement and implementation of lab and research operation policies, instructions, and procedures to meet research objectives while establishing and maintaining quality control.
- Identify opportunities for other independent research opportunities (collaborations, sharing of equipment, partnerships)
- Develop and work within budget of research projects.
- Engage with government, First Nations, and local community members to work on community-based projects.
- Maintain CTTAM (Certified Technicians and Technologists Association of Manitoba) as a Mechanical Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) membership/certification.
- Keep abreast of developments in new engineering concepts, techniques and education in general area of expertise.
- Coordinate tours and demonstrations of labs to visitors, both planned and drop-in.
- Support outreach programs.
Procurement & Equipment Maintenance
- Troubleshoot and resolve advanced technical issues, interpreting system diagnostics, modifying equipment settings, and collaborating with vendors for critical repairs and upgrades.
- Design, procure materials and construct safety related structures for research labs in accordance with UM policy and Provincial regulations.
- Purchase research related parts and materials: includes obtaining quotes, choosing suppliers, EPIC or Visa orders, and receiving goods are required.
- Develop and author Standard Operating Procedures for new equipment.
- Develop and implement inventory systems, maintaining detailed records for all equipment, consumables, and hazardous materials and forecasting future supply needs.
- Maintain Purchasing Visa and equipment purchase records and reporting
- Complete monthly purchase reconciliations.
Safety Compliance
- Oversee and enforce safety compliance to ensure adherence to institutional policies as well as provincial and federal regulations in the spaces.
- Develop, implement, and monitor compliance initiatives for WHMIS, biosafety, and chemical hazard regulations, conduct audits, coordinate training and ensure institutional and legal standards are met.
- This includes risk mitigation strategies, emergency response planning and compliance documentation.
- Develop safe operating procedures for each piece of equipment and instruct all users on general lab safety.
- Organize lab access for students (anytime swipe card access/equipment access).
- Manage the lifecycle of hazardous materials, including proper labeling, segregation, storage, and coordination of safe disposal in collaboration with Environmental Health and Safety.
- Other duties as assigned.
