MISSION PUBLIC SCHOOLS - CAREER OPPORTUNITY
Located in the heart of the Fraser Valley, Mission Public School District (MPSD) is currently seeking a full-time Accountant to join our close-knit team of professionals. This is a union position with a current rate of pay of $30.61 per hour.
Reporting to the Assistant Secretary Treasurer, this role involves responsibilities and tasks that are both technical and analytical in nature and range in complexity from intermediate to advanced. Close attention to detail, and independence of judgment, based on a sound understanding of departmental policies and accounting principles, are required attributes. Duties are often performed with minimal supervision, with a responsibility to organize workflow to ensure deadlines are met. This position is also a key liaison between the schools and the Board Office with respect to school based financial training, guidance, and oversight.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide training and support to school-based staff related to the financial processes and procedures, financial reporting, and budget management for school generated funds and school operating budgets.
Provide training and support for the KEV School Cash program;
Coordinate and supervise regular school financial audits;
Develop and maintain training material, manuals, procedures, and reporting formats, as they relate to district and school based financial management and reporting;
Prepare monthly facility lease invoices and other invoices as required, including monthly cost recoveries to the Mission Teachers Union, the local CUPE union, the Ministry of Education, and other third parties;
Process school district receipts and bank deposits;
Track and record Ministry of Education and other grants;
Process and track of tax receipts for donations;
Process journal entries as required;
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations;
Prepare balance sheet reconciliations;
Process quarterly GST claims;
Process monthly transportation charge-outs;
Provide backup support for accounts payable and purchasing;
Prepare and/or assist with school board, ministry of education, federal government, and other stakeholder financial reporting requirements.
Assist with annual and amended budget preparation;
Variance analysis and ad-hoc reporting/analysis requests as required.
Perform year-end tasks as required by the Assistant Secretary Treasurer, including preparation of audit working papers, and assistance preparing financial statements;
Perform other related duties as may reasonably be expected of a person in this position.
Successful completion of 4-year accounting degree;
Criminal Record Review (to be updated every five (5) years).
5 years of relevant financial and accounting experience;
Demonstrated supervisory experience.

Sound knowledge of MS office software, with advanced Excel skills;

Preferred Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency with standard school district software such as Power School, KEV School Cash, and MyEd BC;
Enrolment in the CPA Professional Education Program
Working knowledge of standard school district operations, polices, and procedures.
