Hugh Bird Overview
Hugh Bird helps business owners and buyers connect before a formal sale process begins. We originate proprietary transaction opportunities, mobilize capital, and work with qualified buyers across industries, with a focus on operating and specialty real estate businesses in the $5 million to $50 million enterprise value range.
Many great businesses are sold through relationships, not auctions. Often, the best opportunities begin with an early conversation with an owner long before they have decided to go to market. Hugh Bird’s role is to build those relationships thoughtfully and consistently.
What We’re Looking for
We are looking for an Origination Analyst to help Hugh Bird build relationships with business owners. You will often be the first person an owner hears from, and your work will sit at the front end of our deal-origination process. In this role, you will reach out directly to owners of privately held businesses, start thoughtful conversations, and help identify situations where there may be a fit with one of our buyer relationships. You will spend your time calling, listening, qualifying, learning the market, and helping improve the way we approach owners over time.
This is a relationship-driven, phone-forward role for someone who is comfortable starting conversations, building trust, and creating opportunities before a formal sale process exists.
What You’ll Do
You will be central to how Hugh Bird builds relationships with business owners. Each week, you will work from a prioritized list of owner-operated businesses, supported by short research briefs that help you understand the company before reaching out. Your role is to start thoughtful conversations, understand where an owner is in their journey, and identify opportunities that may be a fit for our partners. As you build momentum, you will help create a steady flow of qualified owner conversations and partner introductions each week.
· Build and manage a pipeline of owner conversations through outbound calling, email, and LinkedIn outreach
· Engage business owners with a relationship-first approach, focused on listening, learning, and earning trust
· Qualify owner interest, business fit, and potential transaction timing, then summarize key insights for the partners
· Manage follow-up consistently so promising conversations continue to move forward
· Keep the CRM organized, current, and actionable
· Help refine our outreach playbook by sharing what you learn from live owner conversations
What You Bring
· Experience in a phone-forward role such as outbound sales, business development, recruiting, customer development, or a similar environment

Additional consideration will be given to candidates who have:
· A genuine interest in M&A, private equity, entrepreneurship, small business, or investing
· Experience reaching business owners, founders, or senior operators directly
· A finance background
· Experience building a territory, launching an outbound motion, or helping create process in an early-stage environment
· Comfort with ambiguity, ownership, and learning quickly as the firm grows
