Job Summary
Root River Logging is seeking experienced, skilled, and dedicated Grapple Skidder Operators to join our team. This is a field-based position and camp/bunkhouse stay and overtime hours may be required. The ideal candidate will possess experience in the safe, effective, and productive operation of a Grapple Skidder, including experience in the forwarding of wood to Chipper Units. This role is essential for maintaining forestry harvesting and processing workflow. The Operator will work closely with various tools, equipment, and other equipment operators, and will contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our forestry operations.
Duties
- Operate Grapple Skidder and heavy equipment safely and efficiently during logging operations.
- Operate Grapple Skidder to both forward wood to Chipper Units and clean up landing areas at logging sites.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal and safe performance.
- Responsible for fueling the Grapple Skidder.
- Collaborate with other Root River Logging equipment operators to execute project plans effectively and safely.
- Maintain basic yet accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and project progress.
- Follow safety protocols at all times to ensure a safe working environment.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in the operation of a Grapple Skidder an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in the operation of heavy equipment is required.
- Familiarity with forest harvesting and logging practices is preferred.
- Ability to maintain and fuel equipment and perform minor repairs as needed is required.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work as part of a team.
- Basic documentation skills to maintain records of equipment usage and maintenance.
- Must be able to work in a camp environment with flexibility in shift work.
- Willingness to travel and work in an outdoor environment in remote locations.
- Able to work cooperatively in a team, but also independently with little supervision.
- Physically fit to endure the rigors of full-time fieldwork in all conditions.
- Safe work mindset is required.
- Accountable and dependable.
