About Viala Technologies
Viala Technologies is a Victoria-based engineering and manufacturing company specializing in custom machinery, automation, prototyping, and advanced manufacturing.
Our shop includes CNC and manual machining, 3D printing, laser cutting, fabrication, mechanical assembly, and other manufacturing processes. Because we build a wide variety of custom equipment and components, the work tends to be varied rather than repetitive production machining.
We are looking for a versatile CNC Machinist / Manufacturing Technician to join our team full time.
The Role
The primary focus of this position is CNC machining, including operating and setting up CNC milling machines and producing parts accurately and efficiently.
We have multiple CNC machines, and this position will add capacity to our existing machining team rather than simply replacing another machinist.
When CNC work is light, the successful candidate will assist with other manufacturing activities throughout the shop. This may include manual machining, mechanical assembly, deburring and metal finishing, fabrication, equipment operation, maintenance, and general production work.
This position would suit someone who enjoys variety, is mechanically capable, and is comfortable working in a small manufacturing environment where the type of work can change from day to day.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC milling machines
- Load tools, materials, fixtures, and CNC programs
- Produce parts from engineering drawings and work instructions
- Inspect completed parts using standard measuring equipment
- Monitor machining operations and make adjustments as required
- Troubleshoot basic machining and setup issues
- Make CNC program or CAM changes where qualified
- Operate manual mills, lathes, and other machine tools
- Perform drilling, tapping, fitting, rework, and other manual machining operations
- Deburr, clean, and finish machined components
- Assist with mechanical machine assembly
- Perform metal finishing and general fabrication work
- Operate other manufacturing equipment as trained
- Perform routine machine and shop maintenance
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Assist with other manufacturing and production tasks as required
Qualifications
We are open to candidates with a range of experience levels and are more interested in practical ability, mechanical aptitude, and attitude than a specific credential.
Ideal candidates will have some combination of:
- Previous CNC machining experience
- Experience setting up and operating CNC mills
- Experience with manual mills and lathes
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
- Familiarity with measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers
- Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Experience with machine assembly, fabrication, or metalworking
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot manufacturing problems
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Willingness to take on a variety of shop work when CNC machines are not busy
- Experience with Fusion, particularly CAM and CNC programming, is an asset
Formal machinist certification is an asset but is not required for the right candidate.
Schedule
Approximately 30-40 hours per week, with flexibility in scheduling for the right candidate.
Compensation
$24–$32 per hour, depending on experience, machining ability, and the level of independence the candidate can bring to the position.
Candidates capable of independently setting up CNC machines, troubleshooting machining issues, programming or modifying toolpaths, performing manual machining, and producing accurate parts with minimal supervision would be considered toward the upper end of the range.
What We’re Looking For
Above all, we are looking for someone who is reliable, good attention to detail, mechanically capable, adaptable, and willing to contribute wherever they are needed in the shop.
This is not a position where you will necessarily spend every hour standing in front of a CNC machine. Some days may involve machining for most of the day, while others may include manual machining, CAM programming, machine assembly, finishing, fabrication, maintenance, or other manufacturing work.
For someone who likes building things and prefers variety over repetitive production work, there is a lot of opportunity to develop a broad range of manufacturing skills at Viala Technologies.
Pay: $24.00-$32.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Casual dress
- Flexible schedule
- On-site parking
Work Location: In person
