About Us
Acadian Computer Service is a Kingston-based Managed Service Provider (MSP) delivering IT support, cybersecurity, cloud services, security systems, and more to businesses across the region for more than 30 years. We're a small team with a diverse clientele so you'll be doing something new everyday.
The Role
This is a hands on role. You'll spend a good part of your week out at client sites with tools in your hands - running and terminating cable, mounting hardware, installing cameras and network gear. The rest of the time you'll be at our shop diagnosing and repairing machines, imaging systems, and documenting your work. If you like variety and you'd rather be moving than sitting at a desk all day, this is a good fit.
What You'll Be Doing
- Structured cabling: pulling, routing, terminating, and testing Cat5e/Cat6 runs; keeping racks and patch panels tidy
- Installing and configuring network equipment — switches, firewalls, access points, PoE infrastructure
- Installing IP security camera systems and configuring NVRs
- Workstation and server setup, imaging, deployment, and on-site troubleshooting
- Diagnosing and repairing desktops and laptops at the bench
- Documenting your work in our ticketing and monitoring systems so the next person isn't guessing
Who We're Looking For
- Comfortable with physical work. Ladders, crawl spaces, attics, drop ceilings, drilling, lifting equipment, and working outdoors in the weather
- Real networking knowledge. You understand IP addressing and subnetting, VLANs, DHCP and DNS, and can trace a connectivity problem from the wall jack to the firewall without guessing.
- Genuinely good with hardware. You've built, torn down, and fixed machines and you're not nervous about opening something up.
- Able to talk to people. Our clients are lawyers, dentists, and contractors, not IT people. You need to explain things plainly, show up presentable, and be someone we're comfortable sending into a client's office unsupervised.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and a clean record. Travel within roughly an hour of Kingston is part of the job.
- Self-directed. Small team, no one looking over your shoulder. We need someone who finishes the job properly and flags what they couldn't solve.
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Experience at an MSP or IT services company
- Windows Server, Active Directory, or Microsoft 365 administration
- Firewall configuration (Fortinet, SonicWall, Ubiquiti, or similar)
- Working at Heights certification, or a Working at Heights / WHMIS ticket
- CompTIA A+ / Network+, or comparable certification
- Low-voltage, alarm, or camera installation background
What We Offer
- Full-time, stable work with a company that's growing
- Genuine variety - you won't be doing the same task every day
- Tools and test equipment provided
- Health spending account
- Paid training and certification support
