Sinai Health is seeking an exceptional leader to undertake the role of Executive Vice President, Medical and Academic Affairs.
Reporting to the President & Chief Executive Officer, the EVP Medical is a core member of the Executive Leadership Team of Sinai Health, setting the organization’s overall direction in strategic planning and operational effectiveness. The EVP Medical is also responsible for providing senior leadership for all credentialed staff (Physicians, Dentists, and Midwives) affiliated with Sinai Health, guided by the regulations of the Ontario Pubic Hospitals Act.
This senior leader is responsible for credentialing staff and aligning professional staff activity with the Mission, Vision and Values of Sinai Health, developing and maintaining a culture among physicians that reflects the organization’s core values. They also ensure that professional staff are connected and aligned with all aspects of hospital clinical operations, research, and education.
The EVP Medical maintains professional staff by-laws, and manages the Medical Advisory Committee, reporting to the Board of Directors regarding staff appointments and providing oversight for professional practice and relevant policies. They are also responsible for establishing and implementing medical/professional staff leadership and departmental structures to support professional practice and academic work, in alignment with Sinai Health strategy.
All Chiefs of Service report to the EVP Medical with regard to departmental planning and initiatives, managing quality and safety issues related to clinical care, addressing breaches in conduct, implementing disciplinary actions, and meeting all external reporting requirements. The Vice President, Medical Affairs also reports directly to the EVP Medical and together, they provide leadership for professional staff and support staff wellness, professionalism and quality performance. The EVP Medical provides executive oversight for a variety of internal operational strategies and initiatives and represents Sinai Health in dealing with a number of key external stakeholders and partners, including the University of Toronto.
In this role you will:
- Provide strategic direction and establish priorities across the medical and academic affairs portfolio
- Facilitate efficient operations through the effective management of physician relationships with Sinai Health.
- Lead the Medical Advisory Committee
- Advocate and provide collaborative leadership for inter-professional practice and integrated service delivery
- Develop strategies designed to enhance academic activities within Sinai Health and advocating for financial support among external stakeholders (e.g. Ontario Medical Association; Ontario Ministry of Health)
- Work collaboratively with the Executive Team and other leaders on the development and implementation of strategies and operational priorities
- Identify, promote, and facilitate the implementation of best practice initiatives to enhance safe, high quality patient care and service delivery
- Ensure professional staff alignment and compliance with Sinai Health’s Professionalism Policy and provide executive oversight for addressing Policy breaches, often partnering with Chiefs of Service and Human Resources leadership
- Lead, coach, and mentor teams of diverse medical professionals
