The current opportunity is for a BFC Product Associate in the Canada Global Markets Finance team that focuses on maintaining a strong control environment and providing value-added support to the trading desk.
Performing Product Control and Finance role for Canadian Government & Agency Trading, Credit Trading, Mortgages Trading, and Repo
Key responsibilities in the monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial close which includes journal entries and balance sheet as well as corporate and regulatory disclosures
Responsible for internal, external, and regulatory audit preparation including process walkthroughs, providing samples, and interfacing with audit teams (SOX, SEC, IIROC, PWC)
Process re-engineering and change management (e.g. systems conversions, automation of manual work etc.)
VBT / Volcker Reporting – point of contact for variance resolution
Responsible for manual correction of system limitations related to balance sheet classifications (Ledger and downstream systems)
Monthly balance sheet reconciliations
Interface with Traders, Global Finance & Operations to resolve day-to-day issues (e.g. Book openings/closures, PL variance investigations, control account review)
Back up function for the generation of daily PnL and Balance Sheet reports for the Canadian Fixed Income business as well as weekly Aged Inventory Reporting
Maintain strong control environment and keep processes and procedures up to date
Take on special projects and perform additional analysis on an ad hoc basis
University degree majoring in Accounting/Finance is preferred
Minimum 5 years’ industry experience
Working knowledge of capital markets (fixed income and equity products – cash and derivatives)
Accounting designation / Degree in Finance / CFA is preferred
Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Must be able to work independently and be willing to assume new responsibilities
