Calibre Coatings Ltd. is looking for a Commercial Painting Construction Estimator to join our Calgary estimating team.
This role is suited for someone who understands construction drawings, specifications, deadlines, and the importance of preparing accurate, complete bids. Experience in commercial painting, coatings, wallcovering, or related construction scopes is preferred, but we are also open to a strong construction estimator who is willing to learn the commercial painting trade in detail.
Calibre Coatings is an established commercial painting contractor working on a wide range of commercial, institutional, industrial, multi-family, and tenant improvement projects. Our estimators are supported by experienced estimating leadership, project management, field operations, supplier relationships, and practical estimating systems.
What You Will Do
As an Estimator, you will be responsible for reviewing tender opportunities, completing quantity takeoffs, preparing estimates, coordinating supplier and subcontractor pricing, and submitting complete bids by the required deadlines.
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, addenda, schedules, and tender documents.
- Completing quantity takeoffs for commercial painting, coatings, wallcovering, and related scopes.
- Preparing detailed estimates using company estimating tools and procedures.
- Reviewing scope requirements, site conditions, schedules, exclusions, alternates, and risk items.
- Requesting and reviewing supplier and subcontractor pricing.
- Identifying scope gaps, unclear requirements, addenda impacts, and tender risks.
- Tracking bid deadlines, site visit dates, question deadlines, and tender status.
- Participating in estimate reviews for larger, higher-risk, or strategically important projects.
- Supporting post-award handoff to operations by clearly communicating scope, pricing assumptions, exclusions, production expectations, and key project risks.
- Maintaining organized estimating records and contributing to continuous improvement of the estimating process.
What We Are Looking For
The right person is organized, detail oriented, accountable, and able to manage multiple deadlines without losing accuracy. You should be comfortable reading construction documents, asking questions when something is unclear, and taking ownership of your bids from start to finish.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience in construction estimating, commercial painting estimating, coatings, wallcovering, drywall, or another related trade.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, schedules, and tender documents.
- Strong spreadsheet, document management, and computer skills.
- Experience with estimating or takeoff software.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines at the same time.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Practical understanding of construction sequencing, labour production, materials, and subcontractor pricing.
- Knowledge of MPI specifications, commercial coatings, wallcovering, and painting systems would be an asset.
Why Join Calibre Coatings
