The Portfolio Manager (PM) is responsible for monitoring and managing Vancity’s liquid investment portfolio in a manner that delivers returns at or above established benchmarks, and within Vancity’s ESG/Impact and risk frameworks. The PM will develop strategic or tactical portfolio allocation targets, and rebalance portfolios factoring in economic, financial market trends, internal and external liquidity conditions, internal balance sheet objectives, and regulatory requirements as applicable.
The incumbent will maintain liquidity adequacy in accordance with Vancity’s liquidity and investment policies as well as within any regulatory requirements, and manage the portfolio to be ready and resilient during stressed periods. The PM will develop and facilitate regular and timely portfolio reporting to all key stakeholders, in a manner that enables proactive monitoring of investment strategy, drive an effective end-to-end investment decision making process and foster strong relationships with counterparty, dealer banks and other external organizations.
The role:
Portfolio Management
- Develop and implement investment strategies tailored to the liquidity needs and risk appetite of the bank.
- Monitor and manage Vancity’s liquid investment portfolio management strategy that delivers returns at or above established benchmarks and within Vancity and ESG/Impact and risk frameworks.
- Develop strategic or tactical portfolio allocation targets, and rebalance portfolios factoring in economic, financial market trends, internal and external liquidity conditions, internal balance sheet objectives, and regulatory requirements as applicable.
- Develop and manage an approved investment and issuer/security universe eligible for the Treasury investment portfolio.
Communication
- Prepare and present investment proposals, performance reports, and risk assessments to senior management and investment committees.
- Provide daily summation of economic data releases and their associated implications for the capital markets.
- Develop and facilitate regular and timely portfolio reporting that enables proactive monitoring of investment strategy, portfolio rebalancing and an effective investment decision making process within Treasury.
Liquidity Management
- Maintain liquidity adequacy of the investment portfolio in accordance with Vancity’s liquidity and investment policies as well as within any regulatory requirements, to ensure readiness and resilience during stressed periods.
- Keep abreast of market trends, economic developments, and regulatory changes affecting the liquidity management processes.
Markets and Relationship Management
- Maintain markets and economic environment to ensure proactive Portfolio management and strategy rebalancing as necessary
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with counterparty and dealer banks and other external organizations as needed to manage the Treasury portfolio.
- Constantly liaise with counterparties and dealer banks to facilitate effective price discovery and optimize trade execution and settlement.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Lead the daily operations and communication associated with the management of the investment portfolio within Treasury and across key stakeholders such as reporting committees, regulators, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Work collaboratively with Treasury operations for cash management and funding transactions in real time in alignment with Vancity’s liquidity needs.
- Collaborate with other departments to enhance the investment management and reporting processes and increase visibility into the activities of the investment portfolio.

You have:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher), preferably in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Commerce, Mathematics or a related field
- 5+ years’ experience in Financial Services industry, including fixed income trade execution and portfolio management
- Completion of CFA designation or equivalent
- Solid knowledge of Capital Markets, Trading, Bond and fixed-income investment portfolio management, Liquidity management
- Excel, Bloomberg, and various financial market systems
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skillsets

The salary range for the role is $102,200 to $153,200 and a candidate’s offer is likely to be up to the mid-point of the role ($127,700). The upper half of the salary range is typically reserved for individuals who have demonstrated consistent strong performance in the role and possess a high level of job knowledge and skill.
