The service portfolio for Schneider Electric ITD Canada includes Data Centre Operations services for critical IT facilities. Services are provided on a 24x7x365 basis to meet the continuous business operations requirements of our customers.

The Intermediate Data Center Technician, Raised Floor Operations position is responsible for front-line support of facilities and systems within the raised floor areas of the Data Centre. Support services are provided on behalf of the owners of the systems, to help them keep their systems and associated data securely protected and available for running their businesses. Support functions will cover a wide range of activities relating to installation, maintenance, and ongoing operations of the cabinets, equipment, and communications services inside the Data Centre.

Core working hours are Monday to Friday, 07:00 to 19:00 local time. Non-core hours are 19:00 to 07:00 on weekdays and all day on weekends and holidays. Employees will provide full 7x24 operations coverage via onsite shifts at the Data Centre for core hours, and on-call responses (telephone and/or email) and site dispatches (scheduled or emergency) for non-core hours.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Physical work requirements of position will include: regular walks through Data Centre during the day, lifting servers and other equipment (up to 30 kg), working from ladders, running cables, working with hand tools and test equipment, etc.
  • Respond to scheduled and emergency dispatches to Data Centre for after-hours service calls and security escorts.
  • Receive, record, and store shipments of equipment and materials for customers and Data Centre use.
  • Complete physical installation and power-up (Rack & Stack) of servers, peripherals, and network equipment.
  • Complete physical installation, dressing, and connection of fiber and copper communications cables.
  • Provide visual inspection, status reporting, and power-cycling services in response to customer requests.
  • Provide installation and replacement services for hot-swappable or modular hardware components, such as hard drives and power supplies.
  • Provide selected software support services such as controlled system reboots, process/service reinitialization, and device configuration under direction of customer specialists or other senior staff.
  • Provide security escort services for carriers, service providers, and maintenance technicians.
  • Document work in designated ticketing systems, asset management systems, and other record keeping systems as required for reference and audit purposes.
  • Complete assigned and scheduled tasks in a timely manner in accordance with customer deadlines.
Other Responsibilities
  • Site-specific roles will be defined in detail via supplemental documentation provided at the Data Centre.
  • Details for specific work assignments, tasks, and procedures will be provided as required.
  • Other duties may be assigned to accommodate to evolving conditions or new customer requirements within the Data Centre.
General Skills
  • Understand Data Centre architectures and systems for raised floor space: equipment cabinets, containment solutions, final power distribution, computer systems, network systems, cabling systems, communications circuits.
  • Understand basics of Data Centre core infrastructure (power, cooling, fire protection) and interactions with raised floor equipment elements.
  • Understand Data Center security and audit standards: HIPPA, ISO-27001, PCI, PWGSC, CSAE 3416, SSAE16, SOC 1, SOC 2
  • Demonstrate strong proficiency with software tools such as Microsoft Office & Visio, AutoCAD, Nlyte.
  • Demonstrate strong proficiency with computer server hardware systems running Windows or UNIX/Linux operating systems.
  • Demonstrate good understanding of network hardware equipment and TCP/IP networking principles.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with DCIM principles and applications.
  • Work collaboratively with customers, colleagues, and other service providers to plan and execute tasks.
  • Work independently and with limited supervision to complete assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrate high standards for workmanship, organization, and cleanliness with tasks, equipment, and workspaces.
  • Demonstrate well-developed troubleshooting skills to investigate and resolve systems and infrastructure problems.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills and maintain good relations with customers and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Safety Practices
Schneider places a strong emphasis on safety practices in all environments for all of our employees.
All Data Centre sites require a designated Safety Supervisor, and a selected Data Centre Technician (Intermediate or Senior Level) will be appointed to carry out this supplemental responsibility.
Training will be provided to new employees to develop a good understanding and application of safety practices in terms of regulatory requirements, company standards, and industry best practices.

Security Practices
Security protection is very important for mission critical Data Centres. Training will be provided to new
employees for security management practices and security protocols for facilities, systems, and information within the Data Centre.
Candidates will be required to undergo security screening, including a Criminal Record Check and PWGSC Personnel Security Screening.


  • 2 to 5 years’ experience with IT and networking systems, with exposure to technical and operations roles, in a Data Centre environment.
  • Experience with dynamic Colocation and Managed Services environments is preferred.
  • Minimum education is a 2-year Diploma in a Computer or Engineering Technology program, or a CET certification.
  • Supplemental accreditations from established industry organizations such as Cisco (e.g. CCNA, CCNP), CompTIA (e.g. A+), Microsoft (e.g. MCSA, MCSE), Uptime Institute (e.g. AOS) are very desirable.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle access is required
