Position Summary
We are seeking a results-driven Terminal Manager to lead and oversee the daily operations of our Cornwall terminal. The Terminal Manager is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable terminal performance while maintaining high service standards for customers and strong leadership for drivers, dispatch, and yard staff.
This role requires a hands-on leader who can manage operations, equipment, people, and customer expectations in a fast-paced transportation environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Oversee all day-to-day terminal operations, including dispatch coordination, yard flow, trailer management, dock activity, and local support functions.
- Ensure freight movement and scheduled operations are executed efficiently and on time.
- Monitor terminal performance and implement improvements to maximize productivity and service levels.
- Maintain strong control over equipment availability, trailer pools, and yard organization.
- Work closely with central operations, dispatch, maintenance, and safety teams to address operational issues promptly.
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, supervise, and support terminal staff, drivers, and other local team members.
- Promote accountability, discipline, and a high-performance culture within the terminal.
- Conduct regular coaching, performance reviews, and team meetings.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and development of terminal employees.
- Foster a positive work environment focused on teamwork, communication, and operational excellence.
Customer Service
- Maintain strong relationships with customers operating through the Cornwall terminal.
- Ensure proactive communication regarding service issues, delays, recovery plans, and operational updates.
- Support customer retention by delivering consistent, reliable service.
- Work with internal teams to resolve service concerns quickly and professionally.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with company policies, transportation regulations, and safety standards.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all staff follow proper procedures.
- Work with the safety department on incident investigations, corrective actions, and compliance matters.
- Ensure driver documentation, equipment processes, and terminal practices meet regulatory and company requirements.
Equipment & Facility Oversight
- Monitor the condition and utilization of tractors, trailers, and terminal equipment.
- Coordinate with maintenance to address repairs, preventive maintenance needs, and equipment downtime.
- Ensure the terminal yard, office, and facility are clean, organized, secure, and operating effectively.
- Track trailer inventory and ensure empty and loaded equipment is positioned properly to support operations.
Financial & Performance Management
- Manage terminal performance in line with company goals for service, cost control, and profitability.
- Monitor labor usage, operational expenses, detention, dwell time, and other terminal-related costs.
- Review KPIs and provide regular reporting to senior leadership.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and strengthen overall terminal performance.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of management experience in transportation, trucking, logistics, or terminal operations.
- Strong understanding of trucking operations, dispatch, fleet coordination, and customer service.
- Proven leadership ability with experience managing teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with transportation systems, dispatch software, and Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of transportation safety and regulatory requirements is an asset.
