Job Summary
Scansa Construction Ltd. is growing their Civil Division, specializing in underground utilities, roadworks, municipal infrastructure, and site development projects throughout the Greater Victoria area.
We are seeking a versatile and team-oriented Equipment Operator who is willing to contribute both in and out of the machine. The ideal candidate is an experienced operator who understands civil construction operations and is comfortable assisting with pipe installation, grading, utility work, and general duties to contribute to the civil crew.
Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate various sizes of equipment on civil construction projects
- Perform excavation work including trenching, grading, site preparation, utility installation, and backfilling
- Work alongside pipe crews installing sanitary, storm, and water infrastructure
- Assist with labour duties, including pipe installation, utility work, hand grading, and site cleanup as required
- Read and interpret construction drawings, grades, and site instructions
- Complete daily equipment inspections and perform basic preventative maintenance
- Work closely with foremen, grade personnel, labourers, and truck drivers to complete projects safely and efficiently
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-5 years of equipment operating experience in civil construction preferred
- Experience operating various heavy duty equipment is an asset
- Experience working with underground utility and pipe crews is a significant asset
- Knowledge of sanitary, storm, and watermain installations is considered an asset
- Experience with road construction, grading, and site servicing
- Experience with GPS machine control systems is an asset
- Strong understanding of excavation safety and utility locating requirements
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driver's abstract
- Willingness to assist with labour duties and support the crew wherever needed
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to producing quality work
Employment Wages/Incentives:
- Compensation: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour, based on experience, technical knowledge, versatility, and proven ability to contribute both as an Equipment Operator and a member of the civil construction crew.
- Overtime is paid as per Employment Standards
