Position Overview
Reporting to the Executive Chef, the successful candidates will be responsible for the preparation of high-quality food in a timely, efficient, and consistent manner. The Cook’s Helper must be prepared to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment, while maintaining the organizational ability to identify, and act on job duties quickly and effectively, ensuring that all RBC Convention Centre standards of excellence are achieved.
Primary Functions and Responsibilities
- Preparing food items, including washing and cleaning vegetables and fruits; slicing and cutting vegetables, fruits, and meats; seasoning and marinating food.
- Following prep list created by Executive Chef according to event specifications.
- Maintaining a clean work area.
- Ensuring that all food is stored properly.
- Observing all sanitation, safety, and quality guidelines.
- Working alongside the kitchen team to establish a safe atmosphere.
Job Requirements
- Must be able to perform efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job; standing for extended periods of time; performing repetitive tasks; lifting, carrying heavy trays and moving carts in a safe manner.
- Good communication and guest service skills.
- Must be able to work cooperatively in a team and able to follow instructions.
- Previous experience in a restaurant kitchen and/or Food Handler Certification is an asset but not required.
- Applicant must be legally entitled to work in Canada. Proof of work or student permit will be required upon hire.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Basic English comprehension and ability to communicate to ensure safe work practices.

This is a scheduled position with salary in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Convention Centre Corporation and the Canadian Union of Public Employees – Local 500.
