ABOUT THE JOB
The Building Automation Specialist is responsible for maximizing the performance, reliability, and energy efficiency of commercial building automation systems. This newly established role combines technical troubleshooting, programming, preventative maintenance, commissioning support, and energy consulting to help clients improve building comfort while reducing operating costs. This position requires an individual with industry and technical knowledge who enjoys solving complex building performance challenges while working directly with owners, facility managers, engineers, and mechanical contractors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform detailed system assessments, identify operational deficiencies, recommend energy-saving improvements, implement advanced BAS programming, and provide ongoing maintenance services on the Delta Controls building automation platform.
- Complete both routine and comprehensive BAS system maintenance services.
- Produce detailed maintenance reports and present to customers.
- Review existing control programming / sequences and make recommendations for improvement.
- Perform firmware updates and hardware/software backups.
- Identify opportunities to reduce building energy consumption while maintaining occupant comfort.
- Recommend programming/sequencing improvement to extend equipment life.
- Perform trend log reviews and utility consumption analysis.
- Develop upgrade proposals for customers complete with estimated energy savings, operational improvements, implementation costs and return on investment (ROI).
DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree, diploma or formal education or qualification in Controls, HVAC/R, electrical, instrumentation, or mechanical engineering.
- 3–5 years of experience in building automation systems (BAS), energy optimization, or a related technical field.
- Strong understanding of HVAC operations, with relevant industry experience preferred.
- Experience with Delta Controls or comparable BACnet-based platforms.
- Experience with BAS programming and networks, along with familiarity with ASHRAE standards and guidelines.
- Knowledge of GCL+ is required; Python experience is considered an asset.
- Valid driver's licence
- The ability to work independently, take initiative, and build strong relationships is required.
- Experience using MS Office (Excel), Outlook, and PDF-editing software (Bluebeam).
- Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills.
Pay: $55.00-$65.00 per hour
