Job Overview
We are currently seeking a Project Cost Estimator to join our team who is willing to learn and grow in a quickly expanding company. The ideal candidate will have a solid background working in construction, a solid understanding of building envelopes, and speak English and Mandarin.
Responsibilities:
- Take-Offs & Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate material take-offs from drawing specifications to calculate labour, material, and time costs; coordinate and produce complete job pricing and project estimates for low/mid/high-rise residential and commercial structures.
- Scope & Design Coordination: Review project scopes and designs with management; interpret and explain plans to construction teams; validate scope revisions, RFP additions, and changes with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Method & Bid Evaluation: Study specifications and construction documents to evaluate construction methods for cost-effectiveness; review contractor bid packages and approve supplier invoices.
- Financial Control & Reporting: Develop and maintain project budgets, cost estimates, revenue forecasts, and monthly cash flow reports; track budget-to-actual variances and advise management on cost trends.
- Project Support & Administration: Review and endorse progressive construction payments; serve as a key technical resource for project managers and sales teams; handle other duties as assigned.
- Other duties as required.
Requirements:
- Experience: 3-5 years in construction estimating; proven track record in accurate material take-offs and independent blueprint reading.
- Technical: Proficient in AutoCAD, Excel, Word, and estimating software (required); Revit (asset).
- Education & Credentials: Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management (asset); PQS/CIQS designation or equivalent (required).
- Languages: Proficient in English. Mandarin could be an asset.
- Core Competencies: Strong analytical, organizational, report writing, and problem-solving skills; ability to manage project lifecycles, prioritize under tight deadlines, adapt to change, and collaborate effectively.
