The NM is guided by the mission, values and priorities of Residence Services, focusing on the development of a positive living environment that promotes academic success, leadership development, citizenship and engagement, personal growth, respect, and inclusion among student staff and residence students.
As part of their organization-wide responsibilities, the NM provides front-line after-hours emergency and crisis response on evenings and weekends (during assigned shifts); oversees and implements student conduct and follow-up processes; and assists the Residence Life and Education team in the hiring and training of all student-staff. Emergency response includes, but is not limited to issues involving high level student mental health, escalating student and community conduct and conflict issues; harassment and bullying, risk assessment, medical and/or facilities emergencies, and front desk operations
During the academic year (September to April) the NM participates in a work shift rotation on a 5-week cycle from September to April, consisting of morning, afternoon and night shifts.
During May to August and holiday closures, the shift rotation may be adapted to meet operational needs. During the summer the NM also assists in the day-to-day oversight of evening and weekend front desk and conference guest operations as required, as well as providing emergency response.
