Position Overview

Our rapidly expanding team is seeking a Project Manager – Veterinary Products who can work for us on a contract full-time basis. The position is located in Guelph, ON. The Project Manager –

Veterinary Products will coordinate and oversee implementation and management of preclinical study protocols and data collection systems for companion animal studies and other animal studies as required. The Clinical Project Manager will translate research activities from preclinical development into visible project plans through the planning, executing, managing and monitoring of preclinical research projects. Utilizing existing templates, processes and programs as a guide, he or she will adapt/develop, implement, monitor and be accountable for project protocols, operational plans, risk management, resources, project tools/materials, documents and timeline.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead development of the activities and timelines and ensure proper integration and alignment with the overall project plan across the company

Perform project management functions for assigned projects, ensuring project goals, timeframe, accountability and budget are achieved

Provide direction and oversight to cross-functional project teams, including internal and third-party vendors

Creative problem-solving, and consulting a Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to resolve any new challenges

Collaborate with functional representatives to anticipate and identify project risks and develop action and resolution plans

Design and review protocols and reporting forms, including Case Report Forms and Owner Consent Forms, as well as other study-specific documentation

Assist in the recruitment and qualification of clinical investigators and in the planning of Investigator’s meetings

Establish and maintain effective communication channels to provide accurate information to the leadership team

Prepare monthly status reports and internal team documents

Assist with the development and administration of the operating and capital budget

Design and review protocols and reporting forms, as well as other study-specific documentation

Conduct Good Animal Practices (GAP) audits at research sites and vendors

Assist in the assessment of CROs and other research subcontractors such as central laboratories

Help develop and manage research trials budgets and report variances on a timely basis

Establish and manage project timelines and critical path activities

Prepare management reports and assist in implementation of corrective action plans

Help develop, communicate and manage Nutrasource standards and appropriate policies and procedures

Act as primary project contact to external third parties, as assigned

Work with research team and other internal departments to identify and resolve challenges

Establish and nurture positive relations with research site(s) and team (internal/external) personnel

Manage direct reports, as assigned

Promotes GXP compliance across the organization

Other duties as required & as training and experience allow

Maintains an attitude and philosophy consistent with the Company’s standards

Core Competencies:

Working knowledge of regulatory requirements (Health Canada, Canadian Council on Animal Care) including Good Animal Practice principles and industry standards

Demonstrated experience managing project teams and third party contractors

Capability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities

Prior exposure to veterinary drug research is an asset

Demonstrated ability to lead, follow and manage conflict in a complex team setting

Tools and concepts of project management (e.g. management of resources, planning and budgeting, risk management, contingency planning, analysis and reporting

Experience with working with CRO’s, vendors, or consultants preferred

Excellent organizational and time management skills; can work well under pressure, prioritize multiple concurrent projects and meet established deadlines

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with others.

Excellent problem-solving skills in highly complex situations

Excellent presentation skills

Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project


Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in health sciences

Veterinary technician degree or higher is an asset

Minimum one years experience managing veterinary research trials or clinical research trials

Relevant experience in CRO/biotech/pharmaceutical/nutraceutical or life sciences industry
