The Position

As the Manager of Human Resources, you will lead the Human Resources related functions, including payroll and learning and development and provide exceptional customer service, advice and solutions in all areas of HR.

As a key leader in the organization, you will implement the People Strategy, support employee engagement, develop and oversee staffing budgets and provide support to leaders and employees.


  • People Strategy – Responsible for the enhancement and implementation of the People Strategy, including creating and meeting action plans and key performance indicators.
  • Culture and Engagement – Support the business philosophy and employee engagement ensuring consistent alignment of all HR processes, practices, behaviours and employee relations. Including advising the Employee Committee and proactively identifying needs and concerns of leaders and employees.
  • Staffing Budget – In conjunction with the department leaders, you are responsible for the development, oversight and analysis of the staffing budget. Working with the applicable leaders to ensure that budgets are met.
  • Recruitment Retention – Responsible for entire recruitment process from job posting through to onboarding process, orientation program, performance management and development processes, talent management and retention program. Continuously monitor operations and work with leaders to ensure effective and efficient staffing requirements are maintained.
  • Compensation – Manage the total compensation program, including employee benefits and disability management.
  • Payroll – Oversee the semi-monthly payroll process, ensuring a timely and accurate payroll.
  • Learning and Development – Responsible for the coordination of the monthly training schedule, the delivery of some training and the investigating of alternative delivery methods for training and education.
  • Leadership Development – Research and implement a best practice leadership program from leaders, including both tactical and strategic elements.
  • Statistical analysis – Responsible for analyzing and updating the HR Statistics and the budget staffing variance reports.
  • Legislation and regulations – Research, implement and understand the impacts of applicable legislation and regulation impacting the company. Recommend appropriate actions to the executive team in regards to upcoming changes and continued compliance.

What you will bring:

  • A university degree in business with a concentration in human resources; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 5+ years’ experience in human resources management and leading a team of HR and Payroll professionals.
  • CPHR designation is preferred.
  • Up to date knowledge of applicable Alberta legislation and regulations.
  • Experience in a multi-site environment is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and staff budgeting experience
  • Solid business acumen and customer focused.
  • Confident professional with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, demanding environment.
  • Proactive self-starter with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to positively engage employees and leaders in maintaining good employee relations.
  • Proven success in team building and collaboration through the use of excellent interpersonal skills; ability to foster an atmosphere of trust, support, creativity and innovation.
  • Up to date knowledge of applicable Alberta legislation and regulations.
