Position Title: Coordinator, Information Services
Reports To: Program Lead, Advocacy & Accessible Community Engagement
I. Scope and summary of primary responsibilities
This funded position through Employment and Social Development Canada Summer Jobs Program will afford a youth the opportunity to gain experience and learn practical skills associated with working in a vision health organization.
Reporting to the Program Lead, Advocacy and Accessible Community Engagement (Ontario East), this position will assist in the execution of CNIB's local advocacy initiatives and provide individual advocacy support. The successful candidate will assist with the development and implementation of local advocacy initiatives and programming including planning content, producing materials, and ensuring that regional advocacy volunteers have all the tools and information required to carry out advocacy initiatives.
II. Essential functions
The position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities:

Contribute to maximizing the independence and personal empowerment of people who are blind or partially sighted.

Assist with intake assessments for individual advocacy requests

Provide support with the development and implementation of interactive activities and programming for people of all ages living with sight loss from youth to seniors.

Inclusively facilitate advocacy programs for participants with sight loss, along with family members and friends, regardless of income.

Analyze programs on an ongoing basis and implement changes with prior approval.

Coordinate community outreach efforts with regional and local CNIB staff and volunteers.

Provide communication support such as key messages, social media and program offerings.

Support CNIB Accessibility and Research initiatives.

Other duties as assigned.
III. Qualifications
This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, individuals must meet the requirements outlined in the Canada Summer Contribution Agreement.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements

Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.

Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.

Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with Ontario legislation and regulations.

The ideal candidate has a demonstrated interest in advocacy, disability rights and public policy.

Knowledge and experience in advocacy.

Strong writing skills.

Proficient in MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams.

Mature and responsible.

Must be able to work independently.

Customer service experience is considered an asset.

Personal or professional experience with sight loss is considered an asset.
Experience and Education

The preferred candidate will be in post-secondary education or a recent graduate.
