About the Role
CMCS is seeking an experienced and people-centered Human Resources Director to lead our HR function during an exciting phase of growth and organizational development. This role is ideal for a strategic HR leader who combines strong technical expertise in employment law, labor relations, and HR systems with a genuine commitment to human-centered leadership.
As HR Director, you will design and implement the processes, policies, and systems that allow our organization to operate efficiently and compliantly, while ensuring every employee experience reflects our values of dignity, equity, and care, values that are core to our work in the human services sector.
What You'll Do
- Design, implement, and continuously improve HR systems and processes across the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, compensation, and offboarding.
- Serve as the organization's lead on employment law compliance, ensuring policies and practices meet federal, provincial, and local requirements.
- Build and maintain HRIS and other HR technology systems to support data-informed decision-making and operational efficiency.
- Partner with executive leadership to align HR strategy with organizational mission and goals, particularly as they relate to serving vulnerable populations, growth, and sustainability.
- Lead investigations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes with fairness, consistency, and care.
- Champion a human-centered approach to HR. One that balances organizational needs with empathy, psychological safety, and staff wellbeing.
- Develop and mentor HR staff, fostering a high-performing, values-driven team.
- Oversee compensation and benefits strategy to ensure competitiveness and equity.
- Support workforce planning and change management initiatives, including growth, restructuring, or programmatic shifts.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, including at least 2 years in a director-level or equivalent role.
- Demonstrated experience implementing or overhauling HR systems and processes (HRIS, performance management frameworks, policy infrastructure, etc.).
- Strong working knowledge of British Columbia and applicable federal employment legislation, with a demonstrated ability to identify and manage compliance risks.
- Direct experience with labor relations
- Experience working within the human services, nonprofit, healthcare, or public sector strongly preferred.
- A demonstrated human-centered leadership style as someone who leads with empathy while maintaining accountability and clear standards.
- Excellent judgment in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex HR and legal concepts for staff at all levels.
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources designation preferred or a willingness to work toward the designation
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.

Pay: $75,807.27-$120,000.00 per year
