  • The incumbent could perform both program head and instructional duties.
  • This position has II supervisory stipends and Outreach.
  • Applicants must be faculty directly instructing in the programs. This is a supervisory assignment; Article 4.12 of the collective agreement applies.
  • Your role as a full-time instructor at Saskatchewan Polytechnic will be supported through instructional materials, on-going employer provided training, new instructor orientation (NIO) and our requisite faculty certificate program (ALT). These initiatives will develop our instructors professionally while ensuring a high quality learning experience for all our students.
  • This is an ongoing, full time faculty position with a 3 year term assignment as Program
Head. Upon completion of the term the successful candidate can be reassigned or
moved into an ongoing faculty role.

Job Duties
The Program Head is accountable to the Academic Chair – Certificate Programs for the academic leadership, management and administration of the Business Diploma Year One (Business Certificate) program. Within the approved policies and procedures of Saskatchewan Polytechnic, the Program Head will manage and ensure delivery of quality education and skills training that will assist students in achieving success. As a key member of the division’s academic team, the scope of responsibilities will include program planning, resource allocation, effective program delivery and community collaboration. More specifically, the Program Head will:

1. Manage the daily operation of program activities as they relate to student matters and program delivery:
  • Coordinate lead instructors
  • Coordinate timetabling
  • Counsel students
  • Complete transfer evaluations, internally and externally for educational institutions and professional organizations.
2. Promote teamwork and good communication among programs, extension services, support staff and others.
3. Manage program faculty and support staff.
4. Contribute to the development and implementation of the division’s strategic, operating and capital plans.
5. Liaise with stakeholders in business and industry and within Saskatchewan Polytechnic to ensure curriculum quality and currency and to meet program accreditation requirements.
6. Collaborate closely with extension education consultants to identify, plan and implement programming.
7. Teach courses as per assignment.
8. Make academic and administrative decisions according to Saskatchewan Polytechnic policy.
9. Coordinate Advisory Committee activities.
10. Contribute to quality control for off-campus course and program offerings.
11. Collaborate closely and co-operatively with personnel at various levels in other divisions to contribute to curriculum planning.
12. Contribute to program review processes.
13. Contribute to international projects in consultation with Dean, Associate Dean and Academic Chair.
14. Support faculty through professional development and continual learning.

Specific Accountabilities
Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)
1. Four year Bachelor degree in Commerce or Administration; OR equivalent 4 year Business degree; Masters will be preferred.
2. Recent/relevant experience – 2 years within the last 5 years – including industry experience and current knowledge of program content.
3. Successful experience in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating services for students in an adult education environment.
4. Demonstrated administrative, organizational and problem-solving abilities.
5. Training and/or demonstrated experience managing budgets and allocating resources within established guidelines.
6. Ability to provide leadership.
7. Ability to work as a team member and foster teamwork.
8. Strong interpersonal, communication (written and oral) and public relations skills.
9. Effective instructional ability.
10. Demonstrates valuing diversity.
11. Willingness and ability to travel.
