We are looking for motivated and adaptable Hospital Assistant to join our dynamic team! This role will begin at our Oak Bluff clinic, with the expectation that successful candidates have flexibility to potentially transfer to our new Headingley location when it opens in Fall 2026
About the Role:
Our Hospital Assistants are the backbone of our clinic operations, working directly
alongside our Veterinarians and Registered Veterinary Technologists to ensure exceptional
patient care and smooth clinic operations. This role offers variety, growth opportunities,
and the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of animals and their families
every day.
Primary Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Clinical Support:
- Assist Veterinarians and RVTs during patient appointments, examinations, and
- minor procedures
- Provide animal restraint for exams, minor procedures, surgeries, and dental induction.
- Perform basic laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures including x-rays
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms, treatment areas, and kennels.
Client Interaction & Communication:
- Take detailed patient histories from clients
- Explain cost estimates and treatment plans to pet owners
- Handle patient intake and discharge for surgical and dental procedures
- Provide compassionate support to clients during difficult situations
- Answer questions and provide general information about treatments and
- procedures
Cross-Training & Reception Support:
- Reception duties including answering phone calls and emails
- Scheduling appointments and managing client communications
- Processing payments and handling transactions
- Maintaining patient records and documentation
Qualifications:
While veterinary industry experience is an asset, we welcome determined and quick-learning individuals who are adaptable to different roles and varying levels of business activity. We provide comprehensive training and mentorship to set you up for success.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift animals of varying weights (small to large animals)
- Comfortable kneeling for extended periods to restrain animals
- Capable of standing for most of the workday
- Physical stamina for a busy, active work environment
Position Details:
- Schedule: 10-hour shifts ranging Monday through Saturday7:00pm
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Strong attention to detail and efficiency Compassionate and patient demeanor with animals and clients
- Adaptability to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
- Professional attitude and appearance
- Shift times include: 7:00am-5:00pm, 7:30am-5:30pm, 8:00am-6:00pm, 9:00am-
- The 9:00am-7:00pm shift rotates on Tuesdays and Thursdays when we're open later
- All team members participate in split shifts and Saturday rotations
