POSITION OVERVIEW
Are you ready to make a real difference in the lives of young people? We're searching for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join our team as a Recreation Leader 3 - Youth Worker, based primarily at the Greg Moore Youth Centre. In this exciting role, you'll be at the forefront of engaging young people aged 13-18 and emerging young adults in a range of thrilling recreational activities, programs, and outdoor adventures.
As a Recreation Leader 3, you'll play a crucial part in mentoring participants across all our youth-led and socio-recreational programs. Your role will involve providing top-notch guidance across various initiatives, creating an environment that's not only educational and fun but also incredibly enjoyable, ensuring unforgettable experiences for everyone involved. This position stands out for its focus on active recreation, inclusivity, and providing personalized support to participants with diverse needs and abilities. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by post-secondary courses related to the work, plus some related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and instruction for preschool, children, youth and adults.
- Working knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing work and of modern office methods and procedures.
- Working knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and instruction for clients with varying abilities.
- Ability to participate in planning and implementing programs and activities and to provide leadership and instruction on same.
- Ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with program participants, parents and external agencies.
- Ability to assist in leadership of volunteers and junior level staff.
- Skill in the operation of equipment used in the work.
LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
Standard First Aid and CPR – Level C.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Continued Post-Secondary Training in Child and Youth Care and/or Recreation at a recognized Community College or University, and sound related community recreation experience; courses related to youth within a recreation setting are desirable; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
- Food Safe - Level 1
- Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of BC
HOURS OF WORK:
This is an auxiliary position with no ongoing schedule of hours. We require individuals with a flexible work schedule to work after late afternoons, evenings, and weekends. (Hours of work are governed by Schedule B (C, J) of the Collective Agreement (CUPE 622) alongside the Letter of Understanding for Workers in Children's/Youth Services and Recreation Access)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This position requires incumbents to work late afternoons, evenings and weekend shifts with the opportunity for full-time employment in July and August. Additionally, having a Class 4 license would be beneficial. This position will be working with Youth 13-18 and emerging adults.
