Overview
We are seeking a licensed optometrist to provide essential optometry services 1 day per month (typically on a Saturday) to Correctional Services Canada in the Kingston area. The optometrist will collaborate with a multidisciplinary health services team including nurses, physicians, dentists, psychologists, and other allied professionals.
Responsibilities
- Conduct general eye exams and diagnose disorders (e.g., glaucoma, diabetes-related conditions).
- Perform visual acuity tests and prescribe corrective lenses.
- Treat conditions such as conjunctivitis, blepharitis, and uveitis.
- Fit and adjust frames; perform minor repairs (hinges, temples, nose pads).
- Refer patients to ophthalmologists or other specialists as needed.
- Document assessments and treatments in CSC’s Electronic Health Care Record.
- Participate in grievance/investigation processes when required.
- Provide backup coverage during absences and attend meetings as requested.
Qualifications
- Current license in good standing with the provincial optometry licensing body.
- Minimum 6 months of licensed optometry experience in Canada within the last 2 years.
