Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced General Manager to lead our operations and drive the next phase of growth. This role requires a hands-on leader who can stabilize and optimize our production operations, increase manufacturing capacity, and take full ownership of business performance and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations Leadership
- Stabilize and standardize production processes to ensure consistent quality and delivery timelines
- Identify and eliminate bottlenecks in current manufacturing workflows
- Implement lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency and reduce waste
- Develop capacity expansion plans, including equipment, facility, and workforce requirements
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and maintain a culture of workplace safety
Business & P&L Management
- Full accountability for company financial performance, including revenue growth and profitability targets
- Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and strategic business plans
- Monitor and analyze key performance metrics (production output, labor costs, material costs, margins)
- Identify new revenue opportunities and market expansion possibilities
- Manage vendor relationships and negotiate supplier contracts
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the production team and administrative staff
- Recruit, train, and retain skilled workers in a competitive labor market
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer focus
- Implement performance management systems and employee development programs
Quality & Customer Satisfaction
- Maintain high standards of product quality and craftsmanship
- Oversee customer service and ensure timely resolution of issues
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships
- Manage custom orders and ensure specifications are met
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of general management experience in manufacturing, preferably in metal fabrication, agricultural equipment, or trailer/transportation equipment
- Proven track record of improving production efficiency and scaling operations
- Strong financial acumen with P&L ownership experience
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with lean manufacturing, process improvement, or similar methodologies
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make data-driven decisions
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineering or business degree
- Experience in custom/job shop manufacturing environments
- Knowledge of welding, fabrication, and trailer manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with Manitoba's manufacturing landscape and labor market
- Experience managing businesses in rural or small-town settings
