Industry: Service | Hybrid | BC | Competitive Executive Compensation
Some risk leadership roles are about maintaining what already works but this is about figuring out what needs to work better next.
We are partnering with an established BC-based organization & reputable institution entering an important period of growth, regulatory change, and operational modernization. We are looking for a Sr Risk & Governance Leader who can take ownership of the organization’s governance function while helping evolve how the work gets done. This is a newly defined leadership mandate, created to give Risk and Compliance greater focus and senior-level attention.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead the key functions of your department and provide oversight across governance, regulatory compliance, reporting, and risk processes.
You will inherit an established function while building processes and policies from scratch. The opportunity is to understand what is already in place, identify where it is creating complexity or redundancy, and gradually build a more effective operating model.
Your priority will be understanding the business, the team and the overall regulatory environment. From there, you will identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen governance and work with technology partners (internal and external) to modernize how Risk operates.
This is a role for someone who enjoys both the strategic thinking and the hands on implementation .
What You Will Own
Lead the Risk and Governance function and provide senior-level risk advice to the CEO and Board.
Oversee regulatory compliance, governance activities, reporting, reviews and audit requirements.
Ensure key risk deliverables are accurate, timely and appropriately documented.
Assess existing processes and identify opportunities for simplification, automation and improvement.
Partner with Technology and external resources to translate Risk requirements into practical solutions.
Develop recommendations that balance regulatory expectations with operational realities.
Build strong relationships across Credit, Finance, Operations and the broader leadership team.
Lead and develop a small Risk team while remaining sufficiently close to the work to understand where challenges actually exist.
Help translate regulatory and organizational change into clear expectations for employees and leaders.
What Will Make You Successful
You are likely someone who has progressed through Risk, Governance, Compliance, or a related environments and is ready to own a broader mandate.
You bring:
Strong experience within a highly regulated environment with 8+ years of progressive background.
A solid understanding of risk governance and regulatory compliance including experience & education.
The ability to communicate comfortably with executives and Boards while also engaging directly with operational teams.
A process-improvement mindset - you naturally ask whether there is a better way to do something.
Strong judgment and the ability to distinguish between genuine risk issues and redundancies.
Experience leading within a structured or unionized environment is an asset.
A willingness to get into the details when required rather than managing exclusively from a distance.
The maturity to introduce change thoughtfully, particularly within a long-tenured organization.
You don’t need to arrive with a blueprint for everything that needs to change. We would prefer someone who understands the environment and acts with intention.
The Environment
This is a relatively lean organization where senior leaders work closely with one another & highly collaborative structure. There is direct access to executive leadership, and a genuine opportunity to influence how the organization evolves. The organization is also highly people-oriented and operates within a structured environment. Successful leadership requires more than technical expertise including understanding how change lands with employees, communicate the reasons behind it and build the relationships necessary to bring people with you.
Compensation & Flexibility
Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience, with a starting range of up to approximately $185,000 per annum.
Potential to review profiles that would grow in compensation over time & with impact.
Comprehensive benefits and retirement program.
Hybrid working model.
BC-based position with regular in-person leadership and team meetings.
Strong vacation and employee-focused benefits.
If you are a Risk leader who wants to build, improve and influence, this is an opportunity worth exploring. Please reference job number 05150-0013486683 in all correspondence.
