About NSI Distribution
NSI Distribution is a Canadian distributor of low-voltage security, surveillance, access control, intercom, and networking products. We support security professionals, electrical contractors, integrators, and technology resellers through knowledgeable service, reliable inventory, and practical technical support.
We are looking for a motivated and technically inclined Technical Sales Representative to join one of our Ontario offices. This is a hands-on, customer-facing position that combines inside sales, technical support, inventory management, order fulfillment, and logistics coordination.
Position Overview
The Technical Sales Representative will assist customers throughout the complete sales process—from identifying the right solution and preparing quotes to coordinating inventory, processing orders, and providing product support.
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, comfortable working with technology, and able to balance customer service with the day-to-day operational needs of a busy distribution office.
Key Responsibilities
Inside Sales and Customer Service
- Respond to customer inquiries by telephone, email, and at the sales counter.
- Recommend suitable products and solutions based on the customer’s application, requirements, and budget.
- Prepare quotations, sales orders, invoices, and related documentation.
- Follow up on quotations, customer requests, backorders, and sales opportunities.
- Build strong relationships with contractors, integrators, installers, and resellers.
- Promote new products, vendor programs, training opportunities, and sales promotions.
- Help grow sales within the assigned territory while maintaining a high standard of customer service.
- Work closely with outside sales representatives, management, vendors, and other NSI offices.
Technical Support
- Provide basic to intermediate technical support for low-voltage security and networking products.
- Assist customers with product selection, system compatibility, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Support products such as:
- Video surveillance cameras and NVRs
- Access control systems
- Intercom and telephone-entry systems
- Intrusion and alarm products
- Networking equipment, including switches, routers, wireless access points, and point-to-point devices
- Structured cabling and related accessories
- Review technical specifications, product documentation, wiring requirements, and system designs.
- Escalate advanced technical issues to manufacturers or senior technical staff when required.
- Remain current on new products and technologies through vendor training and independent learning.
Inventory Management
- Monitor inventory levels and help maintain accurate stock records.
- Assist with receiving, inspecting, organizing, and putting away incoming shipments.
- Conduct inventory counts and investigate discrepancies when required.
- Coordinate stock transfers between NSI locations.
- Identify fast-moving, slow-moving, and low-stock products.
- Help maintain an organized, clean, and safe warehouse and sales-counter environment.
- Communicate inventory requirements, shortages, and purchasing needs to management.
Order Fulfillment and Logistics Coordination
- Pick, verify, pack, and prepare customer orders for pickup or shipment.
- Coordinate courier, freight, and local delivery arrangements.
- Ensure orders are accurate, properly documented, and shipped on time.
- Monitor backorders and communicate product availability or delivery updates to customers.
- Assist with returns, warranty claims, RMAs, and defective-product processing.
- Work with vendors, freight carriers, customers, and other NSI locations to resolve shipping or order issues.
- Coordinate urgent orders and special product requirements when necessary.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in technical sales, inside sales, customer service, distribution, or a related role is preferred.
- Knowledge of low-voltage security, CCTV, access control, intercom, alarm, networking, or structured-cabling products is considered a strong asset.
- Basic understanding of IP networking concepts such as IP addresses, PoE, routers, switches, Wi-Fi, VLANs, and network connectivity is preferred.
- Strong communication, customer-service, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable learning and explaining technical products.
- Organized and able to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail when preparing quotations, processing orders, and handling inventory.
- Comfortable using computers, email, Microsoft Office, and inventory or ERP software.
- Able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence is considered an asset.
- Ability to safely lift and move products weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
