Engineering Manager

Interested in working as part of a highly talented, and winning team at Pet Valu? We are currently hiring for an Engineering Manager to plan and implement exciting initiatives and projects for our Logistics and Distribution department.

Reporting to the Director, Warehouse and Distribution, you will manage overall warehouse capital investment, including direct leadership of major capital projects and corporate engineering initiatives. You will work closely with the warehouse Facility Managers as well as other departments, such as Buying, Finance, Real Estate, Risk Management, and Information Technology. This is a pivotal role to the success of Pet Valu and we are looking for a bright mind to look "beyond the box" and make ideas come to life.


Preference for a Bachelors degree in Engineering (Industrial or Mechanical)


Previous background in logistics and distribution systems with a minimum of 5 years of related experience in system design and analysis, process improvement projects, and capital budgets.
Experience managing the work of maintenance staff, engineers/technologists, and contractors.
Experience with facility and equipment maintenance, including mechanical and electrical preventive maintenance.
Experience in developing and leading productivity improvements in a LEAN distribution environment.
Experience in leading diverse work groups/teams to successful meet established objectives.
Knowledge of information and/or warehouse systems (e.g.WMS, ERP).
Experience developing capital justifications and managing capital projects $250k+ on time, within budget, and meeting ROI targets.
Experience developing engineered productivity standards (e.g. MOST).
Experience with RF/scanning technology.
Experience with voice picking technology preferred.
Experience completing capacity analysis, optimization and developing facility layouts using LEAN principles.
Experience completing regulatory requirements (permitting, safety/PSR, environmental, etc.)
Expertise in Excel, Access and AutoCAD

Essential Duties

Assist in developing and documenting operational strategies that identify and prioritise areas for improvement, e.g. productivity, cost reduction, capacity management, safety, morale and working conditions, and customer satisfaction.
Lead and/or support facility teams to build action plans that address identified priorities, implement changes, and track them for the purpose of evaluating the end result.
Train and coach the logistics and warehouse team as necessary to support improvement efforts.
In conjunction with leadership, manage overall capital investment plan for warehouse operations, including budgeting/prioritization, submission of CAPEX requests with appropriate cost justification, tracking project completion to schedule and budget, and follow-up to ensure project effectiveness.
Contribute to the setting of annual operational targets with Logistics and Distribution management.
Assist and support the development and documentation of standardized work flows, and procedures.
Project manage warehouse projects e.g., warehouse expansion, reconfiguration, reslotting, voice picking implementation.
Administer KPI data collection and design/issue KPI reports as required.
Support ongoing facility maintenance including rack inspection and repairs.
Analyze powered warehouse equipment utilization, maintenance and replacement.
