Reports to: Director of Care
The Retirement Home Attendant provides direct personal and nursing care to residents to fulfil the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs of residents in accordance to home polices, procedure and work routines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivers personal care to promote comfort and safety for the residents during ADL
- Assists in the nursing process by observing and reporting the condition of resident
- Knows the guidelines of care for his / her residents as outlined in resident care plans, gives nursing care according to these guidelines.
- Provides cognitive, social and emotional support to residents
- Assists the resident with use and care of adaptive / prosthetic devices
- Escorts residents to dining room and activity rooms
- Participates as a team member in co-operation with our departments to ensure quality care of the residents (multidisciplinary concept)
- Documents accurately and legibly on daily records reflecting residents’ condition,
care and specific needs
- Demonstrates safety consciousness by maintaining a clean safe work environment,
practicing good body mechanics and lift/transfer techniques
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Graduate of Approved Health Care Aide/PSW Course or Equivalent
- Has passion and heart for providing quality care
- Knowledge and experience in care planning systems and documentation required
- Ability to communicate positively with other staff, residents and families
- Mentally and physically able to perform duties as assigned
- Demonstrates empathy, concern and interest in providing quality care and service to residents
- Demonstrates organizational skills and ability to complete assignments in a timely fashion
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to provide resident care in accordance with application legislation, job routines, nursing care plans, ability to read and write English and understand verbal and written instructions in English.
Additional Requirements include
- A negative vulnerable sector check completed within 6 months of start date.
- TB screening documentation as required under the Southbridge Care Homes’ Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Policy
