Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Pipe Layer to join a civil construction team focused on underground infrastructure projects. In this role, you install, repair, and maintain underground piping systems for water, sewer, and drainage, working on active construction sites. You apply strong technical skills, physical stamina, and attention to detail while collaborating closely with site crews to deliver safe, high-quality work that meets project specifications and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities

Install underground piping systems, including storm, sanitary, and water mains, in accordance with project specifications, grade requirements, and applicable standards.

Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, survey markings, and grade stakes to plan and execute pipe installation accurately.

Align and position pipes to the required depth and grade using lasers, transit levels, and other layout tools.

Prepare trenches by measuring, grading, and compacting to ensure proper support and alignment for pipe systems.

Connect pipe components such as PVC, concrete, HDPE, and ductile iron using appropriate methods and tools.

Assist with excavation activities, including digging, trenching, and operating around heavy equipment under direction.

Support backfilling and compaction processes to stabilize installed piping and restore work areas.

Ensure proper bedding, anchoring, and sealing of pipe systems to prevent leaks and maintain structural integrity.

Inspect pipes and fittings for defects, damage, and misalignment, and verify compliance with quality and safety standards.

Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in safe, clean, and serviceable condition.

Follow all company safety policies, trench safety procedures, and site regulations, including shoring and excavation best practices.

Work collaboratively with equipment operators, laborers, and foremen to coordinate tasks and meet project timelines.

Adapt to changing site conditions and project requirements while maintaining productivity and safety.
Essential Skills

Minimum 2+ years of experience as a pipe layer in civil construction.

Hands-on experience installing underground utilities, including water, sewer, and drainage systems.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, site plans, and survey markings.

Proficiency in aligning and grading pipes using lasers, transit levels, and related layout tools.

Strong knowledge of trench safety, shoring, and excavation best practices.

Capability to perform trench preparation, including measuring, grading, and compacting.

Experience connecting various pipe materials such as PVC, concrete, HDPE, and ductile iron.

Physical ability to work in an outdoor construction environment and frequently lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs or more).

Valid driver’s license.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team with equipment operators, laborers, and site supervisors.

Work Environment
This position is based in the Lower Mainland area, with work primarily in locations such as Horseshoe Bay and Langley and projects extending across the broader Vancouver region. You work Monday to Friday for a minimum of 8 hours per day, typically on a day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., including a 30-minute paid break. The role takes place in an outdoor construction environment in various weather conditions and involves frequent lifting of heavy materials (up to 50 lbs or more) and working in and around trenches and heavy equipment. Project demands may require overtime, weekend work, and early morning starts. Standard construction site attire and personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety and compliance with site regulations.
