Job Summary:
Responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of goods and or materials within South Western Ontario. Truck Drivers have to possess a commercial driver’s license and be proficient at 10, 13 and 18 speed manual transmissions. This position requires 20 - 25 hours a week approximately. Flexibility is required as the schedule is determined by demand.
Role Responsibilities:
- Transport Goods and Materials: the central duty is operating a manual transmission tractor-trailer or Ram 5500 to pick up and deliver goods and materials. This requires both the ability to successfully and safely operate and maneuver a large commercial vehicle and flatdeck trailer, typically making deliveries and pickups on schedule
- Load Securement: experience with securing loads on an open Deck with Chains, Binders and Ratchet Straps is required.
- Plan Routes / Coordinate Activities with Dispatch: working with the Logistics Manager and using GPS technology, have the ability to outline routes to complete all pickups and deliveries assigned each day. As part of this process, one needs to consider factors such as weight limits, hazardous materials regulations, weather and traffic.
- Maintain Driving Records: ability to maintain detailed records of tolls paid and additional expenses incurred while travelling.
- Inspect and Maintain Vehicles: ability to inspect and maintain vehicles prior to driving, while on the road and after making deliveries. This includes ensuring materials are securely loaded, conducting regular maintenance, inspections and emergency repairs. One must report any accidents or delays to their supervisor and advise of any vehicle maintenance issues to ensure the truck remains safe and legal to operate (outside of scheduled maintenance under the care of the Logistics Manager).
- Identify and report shipping damage.
- Complete timecards, inspection and equipment logs and accident reports.
- Responsible for returning load straps, chains, load bars and other shipping gear from supplier pickups and deliveries.
- All other duties as required.
Requirements:
- Possess the knowledge, training, and experience to organize and perform work activities effectively.
- Familiarity with the local Occupational Health and Safety Act, workplace regulations, and potential health and safety hazards.
- Ability to identify, address, and follow up on unsafe conditions.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of company policies and procedures.
- Willingness to use protective gear and adhere to safety protocols.
- Strong basic math proficiency.
- Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficient in computer use, including maintaining organized documents.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and exceptional problem-solving abilities. Physical requirements:
- Range or Motion: ability to climb, walk, squat, kneel and perform above shoulder
height activity.
- Lift from floor to waist and waist to shoulder and above shoulder height a maximum of 50 lbs.
- Work in various temperatures, cold and heat.
Academic and Trades Qualifications:
- Must possess an AZ licence.
- Successful completion of Worker Awareness in 4 Steps (Ontario Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development requirement).
- Commercial Drivers License and clean driving record.
- Participate in mandatory pre-employment, random, post accident and post incident Alcohol and Drug Testing.
- Participate in skill set and safety training as determined by Management.
Pay: $27.00-$30.00 per hour
