Position Overview:
Reporting to the manager of Data Management, the Technical Specialist, Integration will be responsible for supporting front-line staff and managers to access information and clinical applications that they need in order to deliver better care to our patients. The ideal candidate should have solid foundations in computer programming and systems analysis and design, data technologies, system integration, and should enjoy application development and problem solving.

  • Participate in the implementation of new clinical applications
  • Analyze user data reporting requirements and prepare ad-hoc reports or develop automated reports utilizing advanced reporting tools.
  • Design data interfaces
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and identify modifications needed in existing applications to meet changing user requirements.
  • Analyze data contained in clinical and corporate databases and identify data integrity issues with existing and proposed systems and implement solutions.
  • Provide assistance and advice to clinical users in the effective use of applications and information technology.
  • Write technical notes and documentation for new and existing applications including technical documentation, user guides, etc.
  • Assist in the creation of the system design and functional specifications for new development projects
  • Assure that client requests are responded in timely and professional manner and resulting actions meet client expectations
  • Collaborate with Clinical Informatics Specialists and Clinical Practice Leaders in clinical system implementations.
  • Participate in clinical initiatives within areas of responsibility
  • Comply with hospital expectations regarding ethical behavior and standards of conduct
  • Comply with provincial and hospital guidelines related to the protection of health information and patient privacy e.g. FIPPA
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor degree or recognized equivalent in Computer Science, Health Informatics, and Information Systems, Industrial Engineering or related field required.
  • 2+ years industry experience preferred.
  • Solid training as a software engineer and business and applications analyst. Knowledge of UML is desired.
  • Experience with workflow and business process modeling methodologies and tools.
  • Experience in database development and data reporting
  • Experience with HL7 health information exchange standard and interface development.
  • Programming skills and in particular ability to use scripting and reporting languages to create data reports. Good working knowledge of SQL is expected.
  • Project planning, management and implementation experience.
  • Advanced problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of the systems development lifecycle and processes.
  • Understanding of testing and software quality assurance.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare domain, trends and standards is desired.
  • Technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated commitment to client service
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Able to manage multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
