Job Summary
We are seeking a caring, dependable, and experienced Certified Early Childhood Educator to join our Infant/Toddler classroom.
The successful candidate must have at least one year of direct classroom experience working with infants and toddlers in a licensed child care setting. Two years of relevant experience is strongly preferred.
You will work collaboratively with the Program Supervisor, educators, and families to provide a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and engaging environment for the children in our care.
Responsibilities
As an Infant/Toddler Early Childhood Educator, you will:
- Follow all centre policies, licensing regulations, health and safety requirements, and applicable legislation.
- Maintain active supervision and required staff-to-child ratios at all times.
- Provide responsive, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate care for infants and toddlers.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate, play-based activities and learning experiences.
- Support children’s feeding, diapering, toileting, rest, transitions, and other daily care routines.
- Observe and document children’s development, interests, needs, and progress.
- Establish clear, consistent, and age-appropriate expectations and guidance.
- Build positive and professional relationships with children, families, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding their child’s day and development.
- Set up classroom materials and maintain a clean, organized, welcoming, and safe environment.
- Follow all sanitation, illness prevention, emergency, and incident-reporting procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, staff, and centre operations.
- Complete required daily records, classroom documentation, and shift duties accurately and efficiently.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional-development activities as required.
- Notify the Program Supervisor promptly if unable to attend a scheduled shift.
- Work cooperatively as part of a professional and respectful team.
- Perform other reasonable duties assigned by the Program Supervisor.
Mandatory Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- A valid British Columbia Early Childhood Educator Certificate.
- A valid British Columbia Infant and Toddler Educator Certificate (ITE).
- A minimum of one year of direct classroom experience with infants and toddlers in a licensed child care facility; two years is preferred.
- A current Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Knowledge of the B.C. Child Care Licensing Regulation.
- Strong classroom-management, observation, programming, and communication skills.
- The ability to multitask and adjust priorities throughout the day.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- A professional, reliable, flexible, punctual, and respectful approach.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.
- Willingness to complete a Criminal Record Check.
A second language, particularly French or Mandarin, is considered an asset but is not required.
Conditions of Employment
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Complete a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
- Have all ECE and ITE certificates independently verified through the B.C. ECE Registry.
- Provide proof of compliance with applicable immunization and tuberculosis-control requirements.
- Participate in required centre orientation, emergency training, and policy training.
- Meet the physical requirements of caring for infants and toddlers, with reasonable accommodation where required.
