Position Overview
Dober Williams Law Group (“Dober Williams”) is seeking an experienced litigation lawyer to join our firm through an office sharing arrangement.
This is an office share opportunity (not a salaried associate position) ideally suited to an experienced litigator with an active practice who is looking to continue growing that practice through collaboration and referrals from a well established solicitor firm.
This opportunity is particularly well suited to a senior lawyer who is ready for greater independence without the significant investment and administrative burden of establishing a new law practice from the ground up.
As an established solicitor-based law firm with no existing litigation practice, Dober Williams offers a unique opportunity to build and expand an independent litigation practice while benefiting from our established reputation, professional infrastructure, and extensive solicitor client base.
The ideal candidate will bring an established litigation practice and will have the opportunity to grow it through referrals from our extensive solicitor client base. Our lawyers regularly receive requests for litigation services that we are currently unable to provide in-house. At present, these matters are routinely referred to external counsel, creating an immediate opportunity for the successful candidate to become our preferred litigation referral partner. We are looking to establish a long-term relationship with a senior litigator who shares our commitment to exceptional client service and practical legal advice.
This opportunity is ideal for an entrepreneurial lawyer who enjoys the independence of running their own practice while working alongside a collaborative and supportive team of solicitors.
About Us
Dober Williams is an established solicitor-based law firm that prides itself on delivering exceptional legal services and supporting the business and personal legal needs of our clients. Our innovative approach, strong client relationships, and commitment to excellence have earned us an outstanding reputation throughout the Okanagan.
Joining Dober Williams is about more than simply securing office space. You'll become part of a close-knit, team-oriented firm known for its friendly, professional, and client-focused approach. We believe collaboration benefits everyone and are excited to add a litigation practice that complements the services we already provide.
While our clients are our top priority, we also believe in maintaining an excellent work-life balance and taking advantage of everything the Okanagan has to offer. Our firm operates on a four-day work week for support staff and fosters a positive, collegial environment where everyone enjoys coming to work.
Office Sharing Opportunity
This is an office share opportunity rather than a traditional employment position, allowing the successful candidate to maintain an independent practice while benefiting from the infrastructure and resources of Dober Williams. The successful candidate will be responsible for bringing their own legal assistant or hiring one to support their practice.
The office sharing arrangement includes:
- one private lawyer office;
- one dedicated cubicle/workstation for the lawyer's assistant;
- access to shared office amenities, including a lounge and outdoor patio;
- access to two shared boardrooms (one large and one small) and a shared lunchroom/lounge;
- reception services;
- bookkeeping support;
- general office administration;
- office overhead and operating expenses, including office supplies and stationery, printing, faxing, mailing, photocopying, office computers and standard hardware, software licences, and practice management systems;
- practice management and compliance assistance from the firm's General Manager, including Law Society compliance, trust accounting and reporting support, billing processes, and general administrative assistance; and
- a steady source of litigation referrals from our large and growing solicitor client base, where appropriate.
Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years of litigation experience.
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia.
- An established litigation practice and existing client base are strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage litigation files independently from initial consultation through trial or resolution.
- Excellent advocacy, drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- A strong commitment to client service and professionalism.
- An interest in developing long-term relationships with both clients and fellow professionals.
Experience in commercial litigation, real estate litigation, estate litigation, family law, construction litigation, employment law, or general civil litigation would be considered an asset.
Why Join Dober Williams?
Rather than spending months building the infrastructure required to launch your own practice, you'll have immediate access to an established professional environment with experienced administrative support, modern technology, and a respected local brand.
Working alongside our experienced team of solicitors also creates opportunities for referrals and cross-practice collaboration, allowing you to focus your time on serving clients and growing your litigation practice.
If you're an experienced litigator seeking greater independence while remaining part of a collaborative and well-established firm, we'd welcome the opportunity to speak with you.
