Intensive Outreach and Diversion Services in Medicine Hat is looking for a Clinical Behavioural Specialist (CBS) to be part of a multidisciplinary team and work alongside a registered nurse specializing in supporting the psychiatric care and behaviour management of adults living in Riverview, a specialty mental health facility. The CBS is responsible for behaviour management; mental health and behavioural consultation, assessment, intervention; and staff capacity building through on site education and coaching. As a practitioner and under clinical supervision, the CBS will apply assessments, develop and implement concrete and practical mental health and behaviour strategies that can be utilized by all levels of staff within the client’s care network. Essential to the skill set of this position will be an understanding of how behaviour is manifested as a result of mental illness, developmental disabilities as well as other internal or external behavioral factors. Onsite education and coaching assistance will be offered to provide hands on support to the client and support systems, with the ultimate goal to maintain community status and optimize functioning. There will be direct client work; such as assessment, therapeutic intervention and observation. The CBS will play a key role on the team, providing a holistic perspective of individuals’ health, wellbeing, and level of functioning. The incumbent will provide appropriate psychiatrist support coverage within their scope to their partners when required. This position will also be used to support any of the programs/services offered within Intensive Outreach and Diversion as needed.
As a Clinical Behavioural Specialist (CBS), you will work in a consultative role within the interdisciplinary team. You will support the client in the following ways: psychological testing, crisis intervention, observation and interaction throughout the development and analysis of behaviour tracking data, the creation of programs and guidelines that focus on client strengths, the development of a collaborative recovery client focused care plan. You will be responsible for providing a holistic perspective of the clients' health, well-being and level of functioning, in a manner that contributes to the clients' quality of life. Essential to the skill set of the CBS is your ability to demonstrate leadership in terms of program development, administrative responsibilities and mentoring through the model of hands-on recovery-oriented care, as well as assisting with maintaining standards relating to health, safety, and operations of the home and activity area.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of bachelor's degree in Psychology. Minimum of two years' experience in a Mental Health setting. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS - HCP). Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification. Possession of a valid driver's licence and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel.
Additional Required Qualifications:
At least five year's experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or mental health concerns. At least two years working full-time working with individuals who have addictions, brain injury or other disabilities with accompanying behavioural issues. At least two year's experience with applied behaviour management strategies working full-time completing functional behaviour assessments and developing behaviour care plans. Must have the ability to work confidently and independently, be self-directed, client-focused and have a commitment to providing evidence-based interventions. Must have excellent analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop therapeutic relationships. Must have the ability to thoroughly and accurately collect and document information in a professional and timely manner. Effective computer and organizational skills are a position requirement. May consider applicants with diploma/degree in disability studies, social work or other related fields if other requirements are met.
Preferred Qualifications:
Formal training in ABA/Behavior Science Technology. Preference will be given to applicants with a demonstrated ability to provide consultation, assessment, intervention, education and coaching to stakeholders. Experienced in client-centered care, trauma-informed care and psychosocial rehabilitation principles. Experience working with a multidisciplinary team and have the ability to work well with a wide range of disciplines.
