Process & Manufacturing Engineer
The role involves troubleshooting, analyzing, and improving production processes. This includes developing quality processes and inspection plans, providing technical guidance, and supporting operations to deliver quality products on time. The ideal candidate should be able to work effectively with other departments. Performance will be measured by the ability to work with others, manage commitments, achieve timely project completion, and annual cost savings.
What does a Process & Manufacturing Engineer do?
- Act as a liaison between customers and Amphenol on quality issues when directed by the Automation & Process Engineering Manager
- Troubleshooting production issues and implementing effective solutions
- Conduct industrial engineering studies on time & motion, workforce efficiencies, production rates, job simplifications, workstations & equipment, material handling techniques, material flow, production processes, product and equipment, designs and standards.
- Drive 5S methodology
- Establish and monitor procedures, methods, projects, policies, and programs to promote manufacturing efficiency
- Responsible for keeping processes and fixtures up to date
- Initiate, investigate and participate in corrective and preventative action plans to address product, process and system non-conformances
- Documenting, controlling and assuring product and process quality
- Manage new product launches into production
- Analyze fabrication and assembly processes and identify opportunities for improvement across part manufacturing activities
- Develop and implement improvement initiatives using continuous improvement tools & techniques, working closely with diverse stakeholder groups
- Various lean manufacturing and other cost reduction initiatives
- Suggest redesigning existing products (when applicable) to meet new specifications and cost targets
- Drive value stream mapping to define “As-Is Analysis” and the transition to Future State
- Identify and implement cost reductions
- Implement cycle time reduction projects
- Disposition of non-conforming materials and failure analysis.
- Conduct root cause analysis to determine metrics, troubleshoot manufacturing/ business and assembly issues, material flow, project plans, production capacity, facility design, and create process documentation
- Support for Design Engineering and Marketing for new product inquiries.
- Assist Disposition of Returned Material Requests (RMR) and Corrective Action Requests (CAR).
- Works closely with the engineering team and production.
- Provide technical support to multi-level employees while working in a team environment
- Other related duties as required
What you bring to the table
- 5+ years of experience in similar role
- Problem-solving and quality improvement skills (FMEA, 8D)
- Experience in application of 5 Why analysis
- Lean Manufacturing experience
- Skilled in 3D CAD and MS office
- Ability to make powerful offers and manage commitments
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Experienced with managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods
- Effective trouble shooting and problem-solving skills
Desired to Have:
- PCB design knowledge
- Project management
- Failure mode analysis (FMEA)
- Connector experience
- Military specification familiarity (MIL-STD)
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks
- Geometric dimensioning
- Tool and part design
- Green or Black Six Sigma belt
- DOE, ANOVA and Statistical Analysis
- B.A.Sc. or B.E.E. or equivalent
- PCB knowledge-design and manufacturing
