Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Lead, Philanthropy is a senior member of a committed, hardworking team. The Lead, Philanthropy has a passion for female empowerment, advances MCA’s mission by developing strategies that foster a culture of philanthropy and enhance revenue generation. They have proven experience and success with non-profit fundraising, donor stewardship development, and communication strategies. They have knowledge/experience in other areas strategic development, grant writing, marketing, and business development. With an entrepreneurial mindset and drive, the individual is a motivated and authentic relationship builder with the ability to engage prospective and current stakeholders in supporting the vital work of Making Changes Association.
The Lead, Philanthropy’s key responsibilities include:
- Manage and oversee the development and execution of fund development strategy and related activities including donor engagement, granting, donor database, and annual fundraising events/campaigns.
- Manage and oversee strategic communications and marketing.
- Lead a team of two team members – Grant & Donor Relationships Specialist and Marketing & Communications Coordinator.
- Support of a philanthropic culture and approach to stakeholder engagement
Role Details
Working closely with the Executive Director, Finance Manager, Board of Directors and other members of the team, the Lead, Philanthropy develops and leads the fund development and communication strategy to meet or exceed targets pertaining to donor stewardship and cultivation efforts, grant applications, marketing engagement and revenue goals.
Strategic Leadership Revenue Development & Diversification Planning & Execution
- Contribute to agency strategic planning development and reporting.
- Develop and implement an integrated strategy for revenue development and communications, leading the Fund Development & Marketing team to align work plans with annual strategic goals – ensuring success execution of fundraising, marketing and communication priorities to meet revenue targets.
- Manage and oversee the development and implementation of revenue generating activities such as annual giving, planned giving, direct appeals, grant writing, events, third-party collaboration, sponsorships, etc.
- Attend Strategy & Visioning Committee meetings and Dress for Success Advisory Committee meetings. Attendance at Board Meetings and other committee meetings as requested/requested.
Donor Engagement Strategy
- Development and implementation of a Donor Stewardship plan with key benchmarks and targets.
- Support the identification of prospects & seek out opportunities to grow & engage lapsed donors.
- Coordinate the issuing of communication, tax receipts and other donation acknowledgements.
- Working with the Executive Director & the Grant & Donor Relations Specialist, support the engagement and development of relationships with service clubs and foundations.
- Support strategy around continued and expanded grant outreach.
Strategic Communication - Marketing, Public Relationships and Engagement
- Develop and execute a marketing & communications strategy and annual workplan in collaboration with the team.
- Ensure consistent marketing and donor messaging, strategies and communications include focus and alignment with donor stewardship and development.
- Helping to strengthen and build-out cases for support.
- Attending events and doing presentations on behalf of MCA in support of funding opportunities.
- Work with Program Managers to identify and support corporate engagement opportunities such as third-party fundraising initiatives.
- Work with external vendors including marketing agencies and media partners to build and execute awareness campaigns
Donor Database Management
- Oversee the continued buildout and development of a donor database (DonorPerfect), including report building, efficient communication, and best practice integration of existing donor data tracking into fund development database.
- Manage relationships closely in Donor Perfect, enhancing stewarding processes
- Ensuring data is hygienic and aligned with CRA guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with the team to improve upon and initiate database processes and procedures and coach colleagues in the updating and utilization of the donor database.
Fundraising & Event Management
- Working collaboratively with the Executive Director and other members of the team, plan and manage donor and fundraising events. This includes building and supporting relationships with vendors and other stakeholders.
- Provide oversight (and support where required) of AGLC events such as bingos, casinos, raffles.
- Ensure events are well-executed, financially successful and contribute to donor engagement and fundraising success.
- Support Advisory committees in their fundraising initiatives and execution
Staff Management & Stakeholder Coaching
- Direct supervision, management, coaching and mentoring of two team members – Grant & Donor Relations Specialist, and Marketing & Communications Coordinator.
- Promote a culture of respect, collaboration, continuous improvement, and high performance.
- Coaching and supporting staff, Board and Committee members, and volunteers to reinforce a philanthropic culture.

Position Qualifications/Experience:
- Degree or Diploma in Business, Marketing or Fund Development. Equivalencies considered.
- Extremely passionate about non-profit organizations, and in particular about serving and empowering women and teen girls to implement MCA’s mission.
- 3 – 5 years’ experience in non-profit fund development roles that have included developing and leading donor stewardship plans, fundraising activities, marketing and granting activities – all with proven results.
- Superior communication skills; ability to convey complex stories in compelling ways
- A solid understanding of the fundraising development cycle and donor stewardship – planning/implementing fundraising plans, strategies, and tactics.
- Experience in managing and empowering team members.
- Strong interpersonal skills; an ability to develop rapport with internal and external stakeholders.
- Project management, organization and prioritizing skills, and high attention to detail.
- Ability to work autonomously while being a collaborative and active team player.
- Experience with DonorPerfect or comparable fundraising databases/CRMs .
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications.
- Adherence to a high ethical standard and Donor Bill of Rights.
- Consistent access to a vehicle with the ability to attend in-person meetings wherever they’re located – sometimes with limited notice.
- Past or current Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) or involvement with Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is an asset.
The successful candidate will be required to complete a clear police information check and vulnerable sector search.

Pay: $80,000.00-$83,000.00 per year
