Job Description
QSP is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Supervisor – Drafting Services for full-time remote work. The ideal candidate will lead a small team of drafters, ensure delivery of high-quality project outputs, and support Project Managers in executing utility design projects.
This role is responsible for team supervision, quality control (QC) of deliverables, training and mentoring staff, and ensuring projects are completed accurately, on time, and in compliance with company and industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of a small drafting team, including offshore resources where applicable
- Assign work, set priorities, and monitor team performance and productivity
- Perform detailed QC reviews of drawings, GIS updates, and project deliverables to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Ensure all deliverables meet QSP standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements
- Support Project Managers with project planning, scheduling, tracking progress, and reporting
- Coordinate with engineers, planners, field staff, and cross-functional teams to ensure project alignment
- Identify and resolve technical issues, production challenges, and workflow bottlenecks
- Train, mentor, and onboard new team members; provide ongoing coaching and development support
- Develop and maintain SOPs, QC checklists, and drafting standards
- Track and analyze errors to implement corrective and preventive actions
- Participate in project meetings and communicate status updates, risks, and issues
- Assist with resource planning and workload balancing across the team
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in drafting workflows and processes
- Ensure proper documentation, file management, and version control practices
- Support implementation of new tools, technologies, and best practices
- Adhere to QSP policies, procedures, and safety requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned to support project and team success
Skills & Experience
- Minimum five (5) years of CAD drafting and/or GIS experience within the utility industry
- Minimum one (1) to three (3) years of experience in a lead, senior, or supervisory role
- Strong proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
- Experience with utility design workflows, including as-built and construction drawings
- Strong quality control (QC) experience and attention to detail
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, GIS, or equivalent technical experience preferred
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Knowledge & Assets
- Experience with gas, electric, telecom, or pipeline utility design
- Familiarity with GIS platforms, GPS data, and survey workflows
- Experience with ProjectWise, Civil 3D, or Open Roads is an asset
- Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards (municipal, MTO, utility standards)
- Experience working with offshore or remote teams
- Strong understanding of drafting standards, QC processes, and document control
