In this role, you will:
- lead and oversee archaeological projects, including fieldwork, research planning, and impact assessment
- supervise staff, consultants, students, and volunteers
- provide technical advice and review consultant work to ensure compliance with legislation and standards
- contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and best practices
- manage archaeological collections, including artifact processing, cataloguing, and documentation
- coordinate with external specialists such as conservators and scientists
- support public education, outreach, and communications initiatives, including presentations and publications
- The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's license or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional on the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's license before being hired.
- you are eligible to hold a Professional Archaeologist licence under the Ontario Heritage Act (a valid licence is required to perform the duties of the position)
- you have post-graduate education in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience
- you have experience supporting or leading archaeological fieldwork, with knowledge of Ontario standards and practices
- you are able to travel within Ontario and participate in fieldwork
You have:
- knowledge of archaeological theory, methods, and practices in Ontario (including Indigenous and historical archaeology)
- experience conducting and leading archaeological fieldwork, research, and analysis
- knowledge of applicable legislation, including the Ontario Heritage Act and related standards and guidelines
You have:
- the ability to plan, coordinate, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- experience supervising teams and working with consultants and stakeholders
You have:
- the ability to communicate complex information clearly in writing and verbally
- experience preparing reports, policies, and technical documentation
- the ability to collaborate effectively in team environments and with diverse stakeholders
You have:
- strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and reporting
- the ability to assess risks, evaluate impacts, and recommend solutions
