Overview
We are seeking a skilled Small Engine Repair / Tool Room Technician to join the Impressions Group Ottawa team. is responsible for maintaining the company's small engine equipment while managing the day-to-day operations of the tool room.
This role ensures field crews have safe, reliable, and fully operational tools and equipment every day by overseeing repairs, preventative maintenance, inventory control, inspections, and equipment tracking.
The successful candidate will operate the tool room with the same level of organization, accountability, and service as a professional equipment rental operation, ensuring every piece of equipment is maintained, documented, and ready for deployment.
Duties
Tool Room Management
- Manage daily tool sign-in and sign-out procedures.
- Track equipment assignments and maintain accurate records.
- Inspect tools and equipment upon return.
- Ensure tools are cleaned, organized, and ready for the next use.
- Monitor tool condition and identify equipment requiring repair or replacement.
- Assist with asset tagging and inventory audits.
- Investigate missing or damaged equipment.
Small Engine Repair & Preventative Maintenence
- Diagnose, repair, service, and maintain equipment including:
- Cut-off saws
- Plate compactors
- Jumping jacks (rammers)
- Pumps
- Generators
- Pressure washers
- Chainsaws
- String trimmers
- Hedge trimmers
- Lawn equipment
- Snow blowers
- Power tools
- Other construction and landscape equipment
- Responsibilities include:
- Troubleshooting mechanical issues.
- Performing preventative maintenance.
- Replacing worn or damaged components.
- Completing seasonal servicing.
- Testing equipment to ensure proper operation.
Equipment Readiness
- Fuel equipment as required.
- Complete routine inspections.
- Tag and remove damaged equipment from service.
- Coordinate repairs with suppliers when required.
- Ensure all equipment is safe, operational, and ready for deployment.
Inventory & Administrative Support
- Maintain parts and consumable inventory.
- Assist with ordering replacement parts and supplies.
- Receive and organize deliveries.
- Maintain repair and maintenance records.
- Support inventory counts and equipment tracking.
- Implement a tagging system.
Safety & Shop Organization
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe tool room and shop.
- Follow company health and safety procedures.
- Ensure all equipment meets company safety standards before being issued.
- Report unsafe equipment or working conditions immediately.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Small Engine Technician training or equivalent experience preferred.
Licensing
- Valid G Class Driver's Licence.
Experience
- 2-5 years experience repairing small engines.
- Experience working in a shop, fleet, rental, landscaping, construction, or equipment environment.
- Experience managing tools, equipment, or inventory is considered an asset.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable standing, bending, kneeling, and working with tools throughout the day.
- Able to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions when required.
Pay: $24.00-$28.00 per hour
