NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Camp Counsellor will work under the Child and Youth Worker Supervisor to plan and implement youth programming for Summer Camp. The Camp Counsellor will help to supervise and ensure that programming is carried out in a safe and effective manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Enrolled as a full-time student in High School or in Education, Social Work/Social Service Work, Child and Youth, Early Childhood, or related field is an asset.
- Awareness of Anishinabek culture would be considered a strong asset.
- Strong leadership, facilitation, and interpersonal skills with an ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from the worksite, no public transportation services are available.
- Current and satisfactory Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector check.
- Strong ability to cope in stressful situations.
- Able to work outdoors for long periods.
- Able to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment, including having a valid Social Insurance Number*.
- Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old*.
- Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication, as well as great computer skills.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work under the Child and Youth Worker Supervisor to ensure day-to-day Camp operations are completed.
- Supervise a group of youth, ensuring they feel safe, supported, and included in all camp activities.
- Assist with cultural activities, including storytelling, traditional games, arts and crafts, and other Indigenous teachings.
- Engage campers in discussions and lessons on Indigenous history, language, traditions, and respect for the land.
- Help in the planning, setup, and cleanup of activities and events.
- Serve as a role model for campers by demonstrating leadership skills, positive attitudes, and respect for Indigenous culture and others.
- Support campers' personal growth and development, encouraging teamwork, responsibility, and inclusion.
- Perform other duties for the department as assigned by the Education Department.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work is preformed outdoors, with limited time indoors.
- Travel up to 30% is required.
