Position: Senior Standards Engineer – Electrical Oil-Filled Transformers

Job Scope: As a Standards Engineer at our esteemed manufacturer of electrical oil-filled transformers, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our products adhere to CSA, ANSI, IEEE & UL standards. Your expertise will contribute to the quality, safety, and compliance of our transformers, ensuring they meet or exceed industry standards.
This role will be operated under our new Technical Standards department, and the standards engineer is primarily tasked with the documentation and/or develop internal standards for CES. This position requires a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, regulatory guidelines, and a strong attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineer, procurement, sales and quality assurance, to integrate a CES internal standard into our product requirements, specifications, and testing procedures.
· Establish the material selection parameters for Electrical Engineering in relation of all winding and core materials regularly used in our transformers.
· Establish the material selection parameters for Mechanical Engineering component selection and fabrication items regularly used in our transformers.
· Support the procurement department when vetting new vendors and how they maintain a database of approved products with our existing ones.
· Support sales when sourcing new components or transformer features. This can be driven through customer specifications or CES initiatives to further innovate our product offerings.
· Support the quality assurance team when engineering driven initiatives are launch.
· Establish the parameters for quality assurance which are used to develop control programs on the shop floor.
· Create and maintain detailed documentation related to CES standards which are actively being transition into engineering.
· Working closing with Engineering to develop and oversee testing protocols to validate product compliance with relevant standards. Coordinate and analyze testing results, making recommendations for adjustments as necessary.
· Stay current with relevant industry standards, regulations, and codes related to electrical transformers. Interpret and implement these standards into product design, development, and manufacturing processes.
· Identify opportunities to enhance product quality and streamline compliance processes. Propose and implement improvements that align with best practices and changing regulatory landscape.
· Conduct training sessions and workshops for engineering teams to enhance their understanding of standards and regulations, fostering a culture of compliance awareness.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
· P. Eng is a plus.
· Proven experience in standards engineering, regulatory compliance, or a similar role within the electrical industry.
· 10+ years of working experience in a power transformer design & manufacturing environment; ideally of three phase up to
· Working knowledge of single and three phase oil filled distribution transformers up to 3mVA and 34.5kV.
· Strong familiarity with relevant standards such as CSA, ANSI, IEEE, UL, and electrical codes.
· Excellent knowledge of electrical transformer design, manufacturing, and testing processes.
· Detail-oriented mindset with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate compliance requirements.
· Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
· Proficiency in relevant software tools for documentation and data analysis.
· Certifications related to standards engineering or regulatory compliance are advantageous.

· Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with little supervision.
