The Operations Leader of Environmental Services (Housekeeping Services) provides essential leadership by ensuring an effective daily work flow and overseeing the activities of a shift or group of staff while exemplifying the department's commitment to customer service. This position supports both Environmental Services (EVS) and Patient Transport.
Duties include:
- effectively managing the daily and periodic work activities performed/completed by assigned staff
- ensuring staff have the required equipment/products/supplies for their assigned work activities
- training and coaching of staff to maximize team and individual work quality, efficiency and productivity
- communicating effectively with clients at all levels of the organization to ensure that their needs are met in a timely manner
- dealing courteously and effectively with the public
- demonstrating initiative and good judgement to effectively problem solve
- providing leadership through applying sound team building principles
- liaising with other shift supervisors to ensure cleaning activities are followed up
- ensuring the safe operation of equipment and use of products and supplies through application of department policies/procedures
- performing quality control inspections and risk management audits
- participating in departmental meetings and hospital committees and performing other duties as assigned
- May be required to support Clinical Equipment
- May be required to support Linen Services
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of O.H.A. Environmental Services Level I program is an asset;
- Two years of hospital-related experience in a leadership role;
- Demonstrated housekeeping and waste management knowledge;
- Experience working in a unionized environment;
- Strong organizational skills to manage competing priorities and balance multiple tasks;
- Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and problem solving skills;
- Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service;
- Effective oral and written communication skills;
- Computer skills - including using email, word-processing and spreadsheet software (Excel);
- Sound knowledge of WHMIS and Infection Control systems;
- A commitment to ongoing management skills development;
- Excellent attendance record;
- Understanding and commitment to Unity Health's Mission and Values.
Hours: Saturdays, Sundays, & Holidays as per departmental needs. Must be available for additional shifts during the week.
