We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and detail-oriented Controller to lead our accounting and financial operations. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the company's accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and financial analysis. The successful candidate will work closely with the management team, providing accurate financial information and strategic insights to support business planning and decision-making.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Oversee all aspects of the company's accounting and financial functions, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and fixed assets.
- Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring financial information is complete, accurate, and prepared within established timelines.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure accurate inventory valuations and counts on an ongoing basis.
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes and monitor financial performance against established budgets.
- Provide financial reports, analysis, and recommendations to the management team to support business planning and informed decision-making.
- Monitor cash flow and oversee banking relationships and other financial arrangements.
- Coordinate year-end financial reviews or audits and act as the primary contact for external accountants and auditors.
- Ensure compliance with applicable tax filings, government reporting requirements, and accounting regulations.
- Supervise, support, and provide guidance to members of the accounting team.
- Collaborate with department managers to support business initiatives, identify efficiencies, and provide financial guidance.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting systems, and financial controls.
- Remain current on accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Perform other related duties and special projects as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
- CPA designation is required.
- Five or more years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including experience in a supervisory or financial leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
- Candidates with agricultural experience would be an asset.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead an accounting team.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with senior management and other departments.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity.
