The Opportunity
We are seeking an Advisor, Properties & Planning to join our Strategy & Planning team. As our property and land management subject matter expert, you'll help ensure BC Ferries has the land agreements, approvals, and long-term property strategies needed to support both today's operations and tomorrow's infrastructure investments.
Working closely with internal partners, government agencies, First Nations, local governments, and external stakeholders, you'll manage a diverse portfolio of leases, licences, permits, and land use initiatives that directly support terminal operations and future development.

The Role
Reporting to the Manager, Terminal Strategic Planning, you will play an integral role in managing BC Ferries’ land portfolio and supporting long-term terminal planning and investment strategies.
Key responsibilities include:

Supporting the management of property- and facility-related lease and licence agreements to ensure due diligence and compliance

Coordinating all property management and land use activities across BC Ferries

Coordinating applications and approvals for land use changes and water lot expansions to support terminal improvements and redevelopment projects

Administering records related to BC Ferries' properties, land holdings, land use, lease and licence agreements, and property assessments

Providing advice, consultation, and expert review in the development and administration of leases and licences

Obtaining management approval for lease agreements and renewals, including recommending terms and conditions for property leases and licences

Assisting the Manager in negotiating leases, licences, and other land-related agreements, while supporting land use and area planning initiatives with local governments

Providing strategic insight into terminal planning, with a focus on land use and space optimization

Maintaining professional and technical expertise by monitoring legislative changes, industry trends, and local land use planning initiatives that may impact BC Ferries' land management portfolio
What you bring to the team
Education & Work Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in business, urban planning, real estate, geography or a related discipline
-
Minimum 3 to 5 years experience in land and/or commercial property management, land use planning, or a related field, as well as experience negotiating and managing land related lease
-
Minimum 3 years experience preparing and submitting permit applications to government agencies and external stakeholders, as well as experience in managing and coordinating

Minimum 2 years experience with contract administration and a proven ability to gather input from

Minimum 1 year experience in administrative systems for land related business (e.g. LTSA, BCeID, BC Online)
Knowledge & Competencies:

Strong understanding of land tenure systems, lease structures, and property management practices, interpretation of land use policy

Working knowledge of applicable provincial and federal legislation and regulatory approval processes

Familiarity with foreshore and environmental permitting requirements

Ability to interpret legal documents, land titles, and complex agreements

Proficiency with GIS, LTSA, and land information systems

Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills and highly detail oriented

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
-
Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities
-
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships across diverse stakeholders

Additional information
The target salary range: $83,500 - $104,300 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity.
