Maples Surgical Centre, a division of Clearpoint Health Network is recruiting for Operating Room Aide in Full Time
Position Overview:
Reporting to the OR Nurse Manager, the Operating Room Aide would be responsible and accountable for providing direct support to the operating room, recovery unit, MDR, and the facility in general to assist in a positive surgical experience for patients. With attention to detail on safety related standards, policies, and procedures, the Operating Room Aide would add to the safe care of patients and maintenance of the facility and equipment. As an Operating Room Aide at Maples Surgical Centre, you will be pivotal in maintaining the cleanliness and efficiency of the Operating Rooms (ORs). You will take ownership of leading environmental cleaning processes to ensure timely starts and turnover of surgical cases. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to proper cleaning techniques, and effective communication with the surgical and recovery teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Operating Room Duties:
- Environmental Cleaning: Lead the cleaning of ORs between surgical cases, ensuring adherence to stringent infection control standards and proper cleaning techniques.
- Room Preparation: Set up and stock ORs for the next surgical case, including the setup of equipment and restocking of supplies as needed.
- Turnovers: Manage OR turnovers efficiently to meet scheduled start times for surgeries.
- Patient Support- Assist as needed to check in patients including charting of pre-op vitals, limb holds, transfers using proper body mechanics.
Recovery Area Duties:
- Patient Support: Assist in the Post-Anesthesia Recovery (PAR) area with patient screening, settling, and transport via wheelchair as needed.
- Room Maintenance: Turn over stretchers and rooms in the recovery area, ensuring cleanliness and readiness for new patients.
Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR):
- Stocking: Restock sub sterile rooms and ORs utilizing FIFO (First In, First Out) and assist in managing inventory levels.
- Supply Management: Identify items for reordering and notify the MDR/Purchasing Lead.
General Duties:
- Continuing Education: Participate in ongoing training and professional development related to perioperative practices and environmental services.
- Quality Assurance: Engage in departmental Quality Assurance and Improvement activities.
- Coordinating/Prioritizing Tasks: Working with the team using clear communication to determine support needs, appropriate breaks, anticipating equipment needs for following day/week.

Qualifications & Skills:
- Grade 12 education required. Successful completion of an approved Health Care Aide Course
- 1 year of recent relevant experience. Training in a perioperative environment required.
- Health Care Aide certificate. CPR training at the Health Care Provider level preferred.
Skills:
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Competence in handling physical demands including lifting, pushing, and standing for long periods.
- Knowledge of IPAC (Infection Prevention and Control) and WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) standards.
- Sensitivity to patient and staff needs with a proactive and cooperative attitude.
Physical Requirements:
- Moderate to heavy physical effort required.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, and stooping.
- Ability to push and pull heavy objects, such as beds and wheeled equipment.
- Sustained periods of standing and physical activity.
